My guess is, when it comes, it won't be nature that is responsible. It'll be the bone-headed clinging to religion over science.

I still hear folks talking about how because "baby it's cold outside," we don't have global climate change. Imagine that, how many actually can't understand the difference between the weather outside, in a single location, in a day, from the climate over the world. So I'd say Education would be the second killer, the second nail in our collected coffins.

Wanting to embrace optimism, I keep hoping sense will prevail, proper taxes will increase on the richest 2-5 percent, and capital gains will be included in this, and we start doing the things we need to fix our rotting infrastructure. But I don't hold out much hope.

I heard a guy complaining on C-Span, obvious freeper, about the feds making their little town put in a new water system that'd cost millions. I heard "I can't believe the government is ordering us to not drink poisoned water."

People are entirely focused on the costs of things, the spending, and not the benefits that they seem to be able to take for granted. "That water must've jumped in those pipes and routed it's way by self-creation to my house, so I could take that shower today. I think I'll go out and plant some more money-trees in my little republican paradise that exists only in my own brain."
