Tonight you made it sound like I am a lazy person who just lays around the house waiting for the federal nanny state to send me a check every month. I for one resent the hell out of your statements.

..............

That promise was if that if we became disabled or killed by our military service this nation would care for our spouses and children. I served this nation during two periods of war, Vietnam and the First Gulf War and a lot of years of "peacetime duty" in between.

In June 2002 I became totally disabled my medical conditions that were determined to be related to my Army service going back to 1975, that set in motion the disabilities that stopped me from being employable in June 2002.

I am not getting a hand out from this nation I am getting what I paid for and what I was promised in exchange for my military service, no more and no less.

You sir have never served this nation in military service, you never slept in a foxhole getting shot at, rained on, missed your wife's birthday, Xmas, New Years, your kids birthdays, or even your own birthday because you were overseas you know nothing of the sacrifice the nations military members and their families give up every day.

He thinks being a soldier or 'in service' is doing what you are told to do by some military thing.

Sir, that is actually called a dog, although you probably didn't know that, and I don't like the doctrines that use those lingo because those groups lack respect, but that is the group you are referencing so you should understand what they think of you.

Social Security and Medicare for fifty years from my first part time job at the age of fifteen until I retired. Now that I have gone back to work I'm still contributing although I am collecting SS and Medicare as well. I believe I earned my benefits and are still earning them too. I never did military service, but I believe those who did more than earned their benefits for putting their lives on the line.

9. Actually you don't earn anything in social security. You provide for others then others provide for
you. Social security isn't a retirement program as it doesn't invest funds.

10. Its biggest redistribution is from men to women, oddly enough
I just read a cool Urban Institute paper about that. I'd bet that part of the reason it's still politically viable (unlike, say, AFDC or food stamps) is that it doesn't significantly redistribute from whites to minorities.

12. It's no different than buying life insurance and paying
for it throughout your life. You don't get the pay out until you die. However, no one is saying that life insurance is an entitlement or a safety net. Yes, your life insurance premiums pay for the death benefits for other people. So Social Security is a retirement fund and stop trying to say it isn't. It does invest funds in US Treasury and other safe bonds. As far as Medicare, as my signature indicates, everyone who pays into it should be able to benefit from it. Please no right wing talking points because they are mostly incorrect and deliberate straw men arguments.

15. Yes, it's an agreement...and if you don't "earn" it you certainly do "pay" for it...The boomers
paid twice, ala the deal struck in 1983 to raise the taxes on their paycheck for it -- once for their parents' retirement and once for their own.

Hurrah! The Republicans win another battle!

Or is this one of those deals where you heard something that wasn't said?
