Rick Santorum & Al Sharpton Face Off On Abortion, Civil Rights (VIDEO)

Former GOP Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, a pro-life champion, locked horns with civil rights leader Al Sharpton over the issue of abortion in a heated debate Monday night.

The primary matter at hand was a racially-charged volley lobbed by Santorum at Obama over the president's belief that women should be given a right to choose. "I find it almost remarkable for a black man to say 'now we are going to decide who are people and who are not people,'" Santorum said of the Obama's belief in abortion rights an interview last week.

Santorum, as he has proven in the past week, appeared happy to again dig in his heels and stand by this contention during the argument Monday.

"They were denied rights under the Constitution," Santorum said, speaking of blacks before the passage of the 14th Amendment, before connecting that to his argument that abortion rights are inherently an infringement on the civil rights of fetuses.

2. Let's change that please, they are not "PRO LIFE". They are "ANTI CHOICE".
Once and for all. Media on 'our side' should have re-framed that debate long ago. Jeez.

5. needs repeating
and reminding... they only are pro-life for who they care to be for... no pro-life for those who die from lack of health care or for those who die for lack of opportunity or for those who suffer from cycles of poverty... thank you for the reminder

7. Exactly! It's hard to call anybody
"Pro Life" when they're all for policies that kill people who are already alive.

Plus calling them "Pro Life" means the opposite must be "Anti Life". Which is not true at all.

Anti Choice. That's the only reasonable way to refer to them.

8. So true.
The dichonomy of right-wing "pro-life" -- they mean only one thing: anti-abortion. What they will never admit is, in reality, they're "anti-born". They're pro-war, pro-death penalty, pro-torture, and pro-gun -- hardly life affirming positions. They rabidly fight against any attempts to help the actually-born, whether they are a day-old child or eighty-year-old in need. The unemployed, the homeless, the uninsured, the mentally ill, the desperate victims of financial scams, and even disabled veterans are on their own, but the zygote is protected. They're anti-humane EVERYTHING, all the while spouting god this and jesus that. F'king hypocrites.

9. "Former GOP Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, a forced-birth champion"...
...that's how I'd like to see it phrased.

4. Wow, a real cage match
Are there going to be any, you know, women asked what they think about abortion, and ceding their bodies to outside control by men who have a history of not holding women's interests in very high regard?

Sorry; that wasn't sensible in the least! Don't know what came over me. I beg forgiveness.

6. Fox? Asking women about abortion? Shirley, you jest!
You'd think that would be the first and most obvious choice.

Did you happen to see the video clip I posted in Political Vids yesterday with Texas Gov. Rick Perry pushing to legally require all women to view a sonogram before abortions are performed? He wants the doctor to show them the sonogram and describe to them in detail what is about to happen, hoping to either scare the shit out of them, drive them to tears, or both.
