All good things gotta come to an end, and it's the same with the wildwood weed

I've been here for some time now. Thousands upon thousands of posts. Understand that I love this place. I've made friends galore. I've butted heads several times too. I've never treated any with without respect while not sitting on the same side of the fence that I can remember. Even when I might have been liquored up.

My favorite forum came about years ago when I posted about all the pro labor people on the DU needing a group. It didn't take long to get promoted to a forum. Oh happy day. But many labor people have drifted away over time. I've not understood why, since overall most of us on the DU work for a living.

I was upset several weeks ago about something, and stayed away a few days. I posted about it being hell for those few days. Without going into details (not burning the bridge of no return), some things have happened of late I have not been happy about at all. After much thought so as not to not make a decision I wouldn't be happy about in an hours time, it has become clear what I feel I should do.

So I'm taking some time off. It may last an hour (that may seem like eternity), or wait until after I have my surgery since I won't be able to type for 6-8 weeks soon anyway. I may take my ball and go home, never to return to posting.

I'll still be reading here. I stay up on politics and news HERE. I'll answer email sent through the DU system. However long my hiatus is, it will be too long.

Warmest regards to my many close friends I've never met. Solidarity to those that are pro worker in attitude. Happy holidays to ALL. Peace.

Omaha Steve

2. Concentrate on getting healthy
and don't worry about the few disruptors that like to keep people at each other's throats here. It really isn't worth it.

6. I really hope you come back
I am sure there will be some predictably hateful posts but the VAST majority here really appreciate you and will miss you if you go. I don't think we ever spoke directly but I have enjoyed reading your posts.

16. You have to remember what I keep reminding myself . . . some people are just jerks.
And the internet is the perfect vehicle to express the latent need to be a jerk should one have such a need.

It IS more hurtful when the jerks are supposedly "liberal," but a big board like this is going to get its share.

I notice that the dipswitch posters don't seem to stick around that long, heigh ho.

Good luck on the surgery.

18. Give me a few more hours or days

Several emails and phone calls later, I'm getting over the funk I was in.

One person asked about the title of my post. Video: http://vodpod.com/watch/150783-jim-stafford-wildwood-weed

The lyrics

JIM STAFFORD
"Wildwood Weed"

Wildwood flower grew wild on the farm
And we never knowed what it was called
Some said it was a flower and some said it was a weed
I didn't give it much thought
One day I was out there talkin' to my brother
And I reached down for a weed to chew on
Things got fuzzy and things got blurry
And then ev'rything was gone
Didn't know what happened but I knew it beat the hell
Out of sniffing burlap

I come to and my brother was there and he said,
"What's wrong with your eyes?"
I said "I don't know, I was chewin' on the weed"
He said, "Let me give it a try"
We spent the rest of that day and most of that night tryin'
To find my brother Bill
Caught up with him about six o'clock the next mornin'
Naked, singing on the windmill
He said he flew up there
I had to fly up and get him down
He was about half crazy

The very next day we picked a bunch of them weeds

And put 'em in the sun to dry
Then we mashed 'em up and we cleaned 'em off
Put 'em in the corn cob pot
Smokin' them wildwood flowers got to be a habit
We never seen no harm
We thought it was kind-a handy
Take a trip and never leave the farm
Big 'ole puff of that wildwood weed next thing you know
You're just wand'ring 'round behind the little animals

All good things got to come to an end
It's the same with the wildwood weeds

One day this feller from Washington come by
And spied one and turned white as a sheet
And they dug and they burned
And they burned and they dug and they killed
All our cute little weeds and then they drove away
We just smiled and waved sittin' ther on that sack o' seeds

"Y'all come back now, y'hear!"
