Imagine if Monday morning you woke up, and there was no DU.
Imagine if Monday morning you woke up, and there was no DU.
Monday morning you wake up all sleepy eyed in your P.J.'s.
You get your coffee, sit down in front of your computer and you discover...
NO MORE D.U.

It's gone.
Vapor.
Blank screen, site can not be found message, nothing.

Last night, we lost Keith and I'm thinking about the next shoe to drop.
Big Ed gone.
Rachel gone.
And then one Monday morning D.U.
GONE.

Maybe I'm just freaking out, because I didn't expect what happened last night to happen so soon.
But, as soon as I heard the words "Comcast" and "NBC Universal" I knew this was coming.
And apparently, they wasted no time.

Make no mistake, we are in the queue somewhere and sooner or later they will find a way to silence us too.
Because we can not have the type of democracy in this country that D.U. supports and longs for.
It doesn't support the current "environment" which is all about the corporation, and fuck anything that gets in the way of that.
We are in the way, and it's only a matter of time before they get around to US.

28. I actually met Skeeter and played her husbands TV show with other artists.
She was married to Ralph Emery. I heard a story from Happy Wilson, who once played bass for Hank Williams Senior, that when the record was released Ralph bought up a large number of the 45's to give the record a boost. Happy said he actually saw all of the records stored in Ralph's garage.

19. No doubt.
The FCC ruling sucks. Media consolidation sucks. These are serious issues with indisputable facts surrounding them that we should attack with fervor.

I can't confirm whether Keith was fired or whether he quit because his work environment sucked and was doomed to suck harder.

I know what it's like to be a talented person in a dysfunctional work environment. I want a better venue. I bet he does too.

We do need more liberal voices on the air, and it sucks to lose one temporarily, but he wasn't freaking assassinated.

Let's see what happens and in the meantime work on:

Media reform
Campaign finance reform
Ending corporate-fucking-person-hood
Et-fucking-cetera

I love Keith, but indeed, THIS is not the end of times.

5. Absolutely - internet is next.
Comcast controls a significant amount of internet access in addition to information.
We're seeing a watershed moment in America right now. The SCOTUS decision for campaign funding and the convergence of Comcast and News Corp. in controlling the media is indisputably evidence of the shift towards the New Fascism that is shadowing our country.
Hope all the faux "patriots" with their red, white, and blue shades on are happy.

13. Or, imagine, if you will...
waking up one morning and finding your three month old baby dead in her crib.

That happened to me in 1975.

So, really...forgive me if I can't get all freaked out about the loss of Keith, Big Ed, Rachel, or even DU.

It's all a matter of perspective, and some things really are NOT the end of the world.

16. Hopefully this will give you a little hope
“A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt. But if the game runs sometimes against us at home, we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake”
Thomas Jefferson, June 4, 1798, in a letter to John Taylor after the passage of the Alien and Sedition Acts

We have a reign of sociopaths.

17. Years ago we created a lifeboat
It's on Yahoo, I think! Isn't that funny? Like an old fall-out shelter. I had forgotten about its very existence. I bet it's abandoned and looks like rats got in and ate the labels off the canned goods. We used to go there when DU went down.
Does anyone else remember frantically huddling in the shelter waiting for the ALL-CLEAR signal?

23. I am not a faith based panic type.
I have experience with talent contracts. My council would be to take a breath and see what happens next. None of Keith's language and none of MSNBC's indicate a one sided decision at all. Details will emerge without too much delay, and anytime that is the case, I advise not making predictions. Keith will have more to say within the week, I'm sure. This makes predictions very risky. So why do it?
I have to wonder why a company poised to purge all liberals would have just put Cenk on the air. Why would they do that? They went out and found him, developed a show, put it in a slot, all of that was done by choice. Paying him more than he's ever been paid. Why'd they do that? He went on air very recently. Why'd they put him on? Why didn't they hire a conservative?

29. Keith had already signed a contract through 2012.
He was fired. Maybe there was a clause regarding acquisitions. Comcast is owned by right wing pricks that have given a lot of money to republicans and right wing nut causes.

It is like a creeping fungus. I hope the admins are watching their backs and our backs. We need this forum. DU has become a constitutional place were people can gather and express their grievances. There needs to be some preemptive measures taken to prevent and protect us from attacks to take down DU.

DU has actually become important to freedom in this country.

more step into loneliness. We would also have less truth in the world and that is what they did to us last night.

27. You know, before I typed in the DU URL this morning,
I thought "I'd wager all the money in my pockets that there will be at least one thread predicting Armageddon because Keith Olbermann quit at MSNBC."

Thanks for not disappointing.
