'GMA's' Top 10 Recipes of 2012

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/gmas-top-10-recipes-2012/story?id=17927029#.UNwKzndn0eM

Okay, let me get this straight.

This show is on 365 days a year and airs at least one recipe per day, sometimes a whole meal's worth, from appetizer to dessert and sometimes a party's worth.

And the best ten recipes they could cull from all that to recommend their food segments to the viewing public were the 1950's recipe of a chef who is undeniably wonderful, but who died 12 years ago (the great Julia), one recipe from the infamous Red Lobster, one recipe from the infamous Olive Garden and a recipe for a McDonald's breakfast sandwich?

(Note, I did not even call out a mac and cheese recipe from Elizabeth Hasselbeck, who was sued for stealing recipes for her gluten free cookbook and passing them off as recipes that she created.)

Seriously, whoever came up with this list for a great p.r. opportunity for the show should be transferred to the post washing detail.

1. I'm with you!
The Olive Garden bread sticks are all but inedible. I wrote an e-mail to the Olive Garden guy. Seriously. I asked them to abandon their "all you can eat" bread sticks policy and just provide the diner with DECENT bread sticks to begin with. In my e-mail I accused the Olive Garden of intentionally making the bread sticks suck so people would eat fewer. I stand by my accusation. Of course this was before I found that I had celiac disease. The Olive Garden sent me a $50 gift certificate.

And Egg McMuffins? I can improve on that even using the less than ideal Udis gluten-free bread. Really. Now, I confess, we do have fantastic free range chicken eggs. But still. I had one this very morning because my wife is on vacation. It was wonderful, with ultra premium aged extra sharp cheddar. We have these silicon rubber thingies to put in the skillet to control the perimeter of the egg while it cooks -takes about 30 seconds. Wish I could fix you one.

Don't get me wrong. Udis is great for a gluten-free bread. And what would I do without it? A passable substitute is Mission brand corn tortillas. But bread is bread and tortillas are tortillas.
