Unbelievable. "White Baptist church in Mississippi bans black wedding"
:puke:

A black couple in Crystal Springs, Mississippi says that a predominantly white Baptist church refused to let them get married because of their race.

Charles and TeAndrea Wilson told WLBT that the day before they were to be married, the pastor of First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs informed them the ceremony would have to be moved due to the reaction of some white church members even though the couple had attended the church regularly.

The church congregation had decided no black could be married at that church, and that if went on to marry her, then they would vote him out the church, Charles Wilson explained.

He had people in the sanctuary that were pitching a fit about us being a black couple, TeAndrea Wilson added. I didnt like it at all, because I wasnt brought up to be racist. I was brought up to love and care for everybody.

4. Nina Simone had her own special view of Mississippi.

But racism does exist just about everywhere in the US, imo.

It may take different forms in different places and maybe there are, as you suggest, degrees.

Certainly, the South has a unique history.

5. Racism does exist everywhere in the U.S.
But in the South it is overt and accompanied by a special brand of intense ignorance.

2. Imagine how they'd react to a gay couple
Or an interracial couple.

Objecting to two blacks marrying? How far back do you have to go, to find an era when it was normal to prohibit two black people from marrying...the days of slavery?
