You know which Constitutional amendment I REALLY want?
No, not overturning Citizens' United. That would be very nice, if worded correctly, but if I had to choose only one, that would not be it.

No, not abolishing the electoral vote. That would also be very nice if worded correctly, but if I had to choose only one, that would not be it.

No, not repealing DOMA. Congress can, and should, just do that.

I would like to see a well-worded amendment that does two closely related things: (a), forbids playing games in drawing Congressional district lines; and (b) says that the rule-making power of the House and Senate does not extend to altering majority rule in those houses. A simple majority--and only a simple majority--is required for all other things, except to the extent that a lesser vote or a greater vote is already specified in the Constitution.

No more super majority votes, unless the Constitution already specifically and expressly requires them. No votes by less than a majority, unless the Constitution specifically and expressly requires them.

No more sixty vote Senate rule.

That would still leave up gridlock's creek on things for which the COTUS specifies a 2/3 vote, like Senate confirmation of treaties, but I don't see a way around that and maybe that is not a bad thing.

Supposedly, the sixty vote Senate rule is to ensure that the minority of Americans is not left totally out in the cold, but they are leaving the entire country out in the cold. And I do not believe it is to benefit the minority of Americans. I think it is to save Senators from having to go on the record for or against controversial bills.

And, yes, I do realize this is a two edged sword. But I would rather have that than have any attempt to more forward simply die by faux filibuster.

1. Good Points in your post "NE" ...some food for thought....and hope folks will read
further about what you recommend:

This I like VERY MUCH:

No more sixty vote Senate rule.

That would still leave up gridlock's creek on things for which the COTUS specifies a 2/3 vote, like Senate confirmation of treaties, but I don't see a way around that and maybe that is not a bad thing.

2. yes, NE, how frustrating it was when we supposedly had this majority that the MSM always talked of
but couldn't get everything done that needed to be, so tons of capitulations occurred to get what was done. It was such a rough first 2 years. How I wish Teddy Kennedy could've made it a little longer, for his influence would have been so important to have in these tough times. What a lion he was for progressive causes.

So, yeah, I wish your thoughts could come to pass! :)
