Cosby: Zimmerman's killing of Trayvon Martin is about Guns, not Race

WASHINGTON (AP) Actor and comedian Bill Cosby says the debate over the killing of Trayvon Martin by a neighborhood watch volunteer should be focused on guns, not race.

In an interview on CNN's "State of the Union" aired Sunday, Cosby said calling George Zimmerman a racist doesn't solve anything. Cosby says the bigger question is what Zimmerman was doing with a gun, and who taught him how to behave with it.

----

said that he no longer owns a gun, and people need to find every alternative to violence

2. Three things
1. Cosby is not a mind reader;

2. What impels people is often much more complicated than just one thing;

3. When did Zimmerman make a 911 call about a white person? Or a female? One of his calls was, I believe, about an African American male who was about 9 years of age.

6. What is that you disagree with Cosby about, specifically?

4. Well, true, it is largely about idiotic guns laws.
But it is also clearly about race: in effect, a Florida lynch law.

5. And a neighborhood watcher who seems only to find suspicious the behaviors of
African American males.

I don't care if they asked Zimmerman the race before he mentioned it or not.

The only people who, in his eyes, exhibited suspicious behavior were African American males, one of whom he described as appearing to be between seven and nine years of age.

7. I wonder why he thinks that it can't be a combination
of racial profiling and guns? I agree with his sentiment about finding every alternative to violence.

8. And other things. Zimmerman seemed to have an obsessive need to
engage in this stuff. Maybe he wanted to seem a hero to his neighbors?

I am not sure what it was, but it went beyond normal, IMO.

9. yep, it could have been that (regarding neighbors), but he also just comes across as a huge desire
to be an enforcer, a judge, a cop, etc... he's scary, and yet, there's one just like him on about every street.

11. I know some serious gun nuts...
and they all seem to have a sense of paranoia combined with wanting to save the day by being the person in each of their made up scenarios, who has the gun and takes care of the bad guy(s). Some of them spout shit about race wars, too.

Needless to say, we don't hang out together.

12. yep, me too! they play scenarios in their head daily, I'm sure
what's funny, the one I know the best, and I consider a friend who's a bit too immersed in gun stuff, and been twisted by faux noise channel and his hard conservative wife, says he can't stand Obama all the time ------ and he just wrote me last month when I was talking to him about Santorum and Romney to try and get him to see they're wacks, and said, "I can't stand Romney at all!!!"

so, I think with him being Mormon, and a flip flopper, and icy cold or rude at times, and filthy rich and acquiring it in a questionably immoral manner, he's going to lose to Obama...

10. He makes a good point...moving this further. Yet, the color of Trayvon's skin..
is also a factor.

With Zimmerman was it race or just territorial..gun happy RW'er?

Both factors? Whatever ....Shoot first and ask questions later should be in the most extreme situation...not what seemed to be the case with this murder.. :-(
