He was answering a question specifically about "how many card carrying members of the Communist Party are in Congress." That means a person who had signed up, pays dues (if any), attends meetings, etc., not someone West simply thinks is too far to the left.

The Communist Party issued a statement calling his claims ridiculous.

He backpedaled, saying "whatever you want to call them," but did not expressly admit he was backpedaling and no one who had not heard the original question would know how far and fast he was backpedaling.

He was referring to the members of the House Progressive Caucus.

I think DU-2 has the "Humor Factor" and the "Live and Let Live Factor" in perspective. BUT...."OH NOES!" What does THAT MEAN???? might be reaction from "other places." A stream of invective...or a huge Ignore with MEGA ALERTS to the JURY and even TOS VIOLATIONS that go to the HIGHER POWERS.

Just saying.... How we judge in "our own times" might be different from how Historians (if any of us or they are still around a hundred years from now) will view all this turmoil of the 20th...early 21st Century.

It should be amazing...but, I won't be around to see it ...and that makes me very sad.

I think the site was definitely overdue for an aesthetic upgrade. But I think the DU2 moderating system was better for the main forums and encouraged better discussions. I like that groups are now open to non-star members and have more self-control over moderation. Mixed bag. I don't like the new star pricing.

OMG! Reading his wiki, I learned that he has a masters degree from Kansas State University in ---wait for it---political science.

Also has one from from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officer College in "political theory and military history and operations."

So he should know a lot better.
