Breaking--Just arrested: George Clooney, his father, Congressman McGovern
and another Rep. whose name I missed.

Outside the Sudanese embassy in Washington, D.C.

They were protesting the policies of the Sudanese President.

5. The phrasing in the context of the subject line in the OP
reads somewhat like it is referring to Congressman McGovern as George Clooney's father, and LG was making a funny.

Hi, No Elephants :)

7. If that is what I meant, I would have put a comma after McGovern
because a noun in apposition is set off by two commas, whereas items in a series are separated by only one comma per item.

Hola, Zorra! Very happy to see you. Hope all is well with you.

10. Yeah, I know...
but at first glance at the subject line, without seeing the rest of the text I immediately thought "Wow, I didn't know his father was a Congressman."

Sort of a DU contextual illusion for me, I suppose; so I thought LG must have had the same reaction.

Live and learn, huh?

Thanks, No Elephants, happy to see you also!

I didn't know which Congressman McGovern the OP was in reference to, hence my confusion. I assumed it was an active congressman

Clooney's father really is someone famous though.

He was a politician from Kentucky, if I remember correctly. He was raised a liberal too if I'm not mistaken.

3. The criminal co-consipirators have been released--for now.
The crime was crossing a police line (which, I guess, begs the question whether putting up a police line was legal).

WASHINGTON — Actor George Clooney was a free man Friday afternoon after his arrest in Washington, D.C., during a protest at the Sudanese Embassy, two days after dining with the president at a White House state dinner and testifying before Congress about a mounting humanitarian crisis in the African country.

Those arrested with him included two Democratic members of Congress — Massachusetts Rep. Jim McGovern and Virginia Rep. Jim Moran — Clooney's father Nick, NAACP president Ben Jealous, and Rabbi Steve Gutow, president of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs.

The group was protesting the Sudanese hunger crisis, accusing President Omar al-Bashir of blocking food and humanitarian assistance from reaching hundreds of thousands of Sudanese.

The men were arrested by the Secret Service, which protects the embassies in the District of Columbia, and were charged with disorderly crossing of a police line, a Secret Service spokesman said. If convicted, the charge will likely result in a small fine.

Whole story is wrorth reading, IMO. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/20177...

Or is that so called law not in effect yet?

8. Well, he put up a $100 bond, so I guess it is not considered a serious crime.
I have heard what they crossed described in two ways: "police barricade" and "police line."

I don't know what a police line is, if they don't put up those little thingies.

I am so proud of McGovern. God, I love my Massachusetts delegation. I loved it a lot more when Kennedy headed it.

I am hoping with all my being that Warren will knock out Brown, even though polls are in his favor now.
