Emanuel Disavows 25% of School Kids, Says CTU

Karen Lewis, the Chicago Teacher's Union President, and Mayor Rahm Emanuel have a testy relationship at best.

<snip>

"In that conversation, he did say to me that 25 percent of the students in this city are never going to be anything, never going to amount to anything and he was never going to throw money at them."

<snip>

"Even if you feel that way, you can't say that to me," she said. "And he sort of poo-pooed it and we moved on."

<snip>

"That's simply false," said Emanuel Press Secretary Sarah Hamilton. "The Mayor is committed to making sure that every single child in Chicago has access to an excellent education, which is why he is fighting so hard to transform the Chicago public schools that have failed our children year after year."

Lewis says the mayor says one thing in public and another in private.

So, whom do you believe?

(In a related story, Rahm went to the WH to discuss schools.)

1. If you're honestly asking, I believe Karen Lewis,
and I won't state what I think about Rahm, as there are still moderators here. :hi:

3. i think that they both have hot tempers, and tend to yell

at each other. i suspect that something somewhat like that was said, but that karen lewis is making hay with it. i doubt that whatever was said was meant to mean what she is saying he said.
i suspect her time as ctu president will be short. she does not have the temperament for the job that lies ahead of her.

5. Perhaps, according to what you say, then Rahm's time as Mayor will be short

as he "doesn't seem to have the temperament for the job that lies ahead of him."

4. Sadly...Rahm's track record for making insensitive statements ...
mingled with profanity/cursing is well known. I'd probably believe Karen Lewis before I'd take Rahm's Press Secretary's word on it.

Outrageous statements against average Americans (99%) seem to be the norm today. Santorum, Christie and others are on the record for making statements that once seemed outrageous but are just part of the political dialogue these days. :-(
