Quran burning at Afghan base "a mistake"
Coalition: Quran burning at Afghan base "a mistake"
From the CNN Wire Staff
updated 8:34 AM EST, Tue February 21, 2012

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Some Qurans and other Islamic religious materials gathered for disposal from a detention facility at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan were improperly burned, the commander of the International Security Assistance Force said Tuesday.

"This was not a decision that was made because they were religious materials," Gen. John Allen said. "It was not a decision that was made with respect to the faith of Islam. It was a mistake. It was an error. The moment we found out about it, we immediately stopped and we intervened."

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the airfield Tuesday, furious over reports of the burning.

Religious materials, including the Qurans, were gathered for disposal from the Parwan detention facility, Allen said. "Those materials were inadvertently given to troops for disposition, and that disposition was to burn the materials."

If the materials gathered for disposition had included Bibles instead of Qurans, would the orders have been any different? If so, the military was wrong. If not, get over it.

IMO, deliberately using the term "Aryan" was a much bigger issue.

Meanwhile, I'll say it again. We are not great at winning hearts and minds, especially not in a nation we have bombed and occupied. They just don't seem to stop hating us for our freedoms.

1. How about not burning books at all?
No, I don't think I want to get over book burning, no matter how the Qurans were included.

2. the whole article about this smells...doesn't it? Why would our Nato troops do this?
....UNLESS...whatever...don't want to get into "Creative Theories," here. Definitely don't want to do that.

Just a "Mistake."
