Just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in...
Edited on Wed Jan-11-12 05:44 PM by kentuck
I'm still not comfortable over at DU3. I'm sure they will work out the kinks.

I guess one of the biggest differences is the consolidation of GD and GDP which makes GD a little more "moderate" and GDP a little less so, I suppose?

It doesn't seem as progressive as it once did. Perhaps it never was?

Times change. But the need for progressive thought remains.

Hello to all my friends.

1. Hi, kentuck.
I think that I am ok with DU3, and I don't think it is any different. There have always been the detractors, and the asses. I have always had to keep reading past the problem children to find the intelligent posters. I still do, and they are there.

I really like some new features, especially that, no matter how long ago you posted something, if someone replies to it, it goes to the top of "My DU". That, I love. But I am so tired of being called to jury duty!!! And then I see how many things are not working with that system. As much as everyone bitched about the mods, they did a decent job of it.

Anyways, hope to see you over there.

2. They just broke out a new GD split yesterday - now there's GD & Politics 2012.
Might help, can't hurt!

13. Hey Mryna!!! Good to see you, too!

I suppose it's not very welcome here to say this, but I'm actually getting along quite fine on DU3. Of course, it helps that I hardly ever go into GD over there - I've posted maybe 2 comments in GD since DU3 opened.

On the other hand, I hardly ever posted in DU2's GD anymore over the past year or so, either - so it's not like it's a drastic change for me.

"Help & Meta Discussion" has become my new home on DU3, and I must admit that I've really been enjoying it. I haven't posted so much in years. What's really cool about "Meta" is that pretty much anything goes, everyone gets to complain and opinionate and duke it out with each other and nothing gets shut down. Plus, everybody chimes in to help their fellow DUers who are befuddled about how to navigate DU3. It's a fun place.

There's also a new Buddhism Group that just got going a couple days ago. I've only made one post there, but it's been interesting reading the other posts and I'm truly glad it's there.

I'm not going to proselytize about DU3 here, if people choose to stay away, I can totally understand and respect that. I guess I just want to say, if anyone ever wants to find me, I'll be on DU3 for the forseeable future.

Love,
sw

3. Yesterday a new GDP main forum was added to DU3

General Discussion Politics 2012

p.s. And today they added OP/comment Formatting Buttons.
It's getting better over there every day :)

4. Hi. Pour yourself a beverage of your choice and post here a while.
None of us know how long DU 2, which is moderated, but not supported (?), will last. However, while it is here, it would be a shame to waste the opportunity.

As far as seeming less progressive, I have no idea what "progressive" means. However, liberals seemed to get bounced off this version and DU3 with great frequency, more so with the DU3 system. So, it seems logical to me that DU3 does not seem liberal.

I think it was easier to seem liberal when everyone was criticizing Bush. When the candidates began lining up in 2007, though, it was no longer just about Dems vs. Rethugs. Rather, another layer, Establishment Dems vs. other Dems, was added.

And it's been a long time since Establishment Dems were liberal.

5. I just read there today.
I was quite surprised. I knew there were changes, but the top of the recommended all but insults any of us with varied ideas. It is not really just about Ron Paul supporters there, it devolves into a general mish mash against speaking out on things which bother us.

That post sets up a us/them mentality which is not welcoming to me. I was told my "one-note" posts would not be welcome, but looks like it is becoming about us/them on every topic.

Oh, well.

6. Agree, MF... Posters like Kentuck are questioners and will not be seen as controversial
...others of us have more of a record of postings that many "over there" seem to have problems with.

So...I hear ya'

15. This was the value of the unrec button.
Kept those trollish posts at bay. Now it seems like they are the majority of DUers, but unrec balanced those sorts of posts out before. It was more democratic, so to speak.

Now, all of DU3 is governed by the unrec button.

it wasn't trolls who said that about it. Think higher up than that. After 9 years...undeserved.

Oh well, such is the nature of the internet.

actually told you to stop posting information and articles about the attacks on teachers and public education? Your posts on those subjects are invaluable. I can't imagine why they would tell you to stop posting such information!

14. I refuse to leave - hate the layout of DU3
Edited on Thu Jan-12-12 09:12 PM by GregD
I don't post much any longer, used to be pretty active in 03 and later when the BBV stuff was hot. Since then I just come and read the greatest page to see what's going on. I find the navigation to get to the equivalent section in DU3 awkward and unfriendly. WTF is wrong with a button at the top, like this design, that takes you straight to the greatest hits? Genius design... Not...

I'll be in this one until they pry it from us, then I may just leave.

18. Me too.
Just dropping in.

I post a little over at the New Place,
but don't like it very much.
My posting frequency had dropped by about 90%,
as has my time spent at DU.

My Browser used to open directly to DUs Greatest page, and that Window would stay open all day.
Not anymore.
Too much NonSense, Willful Distortions, Snark without Substance, Logical Fallacies, Swift Boating of Critics, Direct Personal Attacks, and Party Purity demands.
Separating the Wheat from the Chaff at the old DU used to provide enough nourishment to make the effort worthwhile.

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

Sometimes I feel out-numbered....and it shouldn't be that way?

It's almost like some folks have surrendered their principles for a cult of personality.
