Pentagon military review 'will axe US troops'
Source: BBC

The US is to axe thousands of troops as part of a far-reaching defence review aimed at coping with huge budget cuts over the next decade, officials say.

The changes - to be unveiled on Thursday - are likely to end a decades-old policy of maintaining the strength to fight two wars at once.

President Barack Obama will announce the plans with Defence Secretary Leon Panetta at the Pentagon on Thursday.

The Pentagon faces more than $450bn (288bn) in cuts in the next 10 years.

3.  How about the hundreds of unneeded bases abroad?
Some of our less fortunate citizens are starving here at home and we are suppling the Germans,Koreans,Japanese,British and other foreigner jobs when we need them here at home.We the people need to fire the majority of those worthless congressmen and women, let them see what it feel like to be jobless.

5. True that. There are more than 700 military sites of various size in
more than 30 countries.

Close them, and bring the personnel and their families home. Spread the returnees among the bases in the US, some of which were downsized. This will provide an immediate influx of money in the affected local economies.

Closing those bases provides a savings in the lease payments currently going to the host countries, AND saves the payroll being spent on the local civilian employees.

The overall military manpower total can be reduced via normal attrition as the enlistments expire, combined with less vigorous recruiting efforts.

While we're at it, reduce the foreign aid budget. About $50 billion went there in 2010, and recently about $235 million went to Israel for defense stuff. Those dollars can be used in the US for repair of bridges, roads, school, etc., as well as assisting with the problems of homelessness, joblessness, and folks who cannot afford medical care and/or medicines.

7. What about the war profiteers and mercenaries.
Oh, but that's the raison d'etre for the wars. Filling their pockets.
