AZ sheriff's officers turn in fed credentials
Source: AP via CBS

Dozens of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's jail officers lined up at a news conference in Phoenix to ceremoniously hand in their federal credentials a week after they were stripped of the ability to verify the immigration status of inmates.

The Department of Homeland Security announced Dec. 15 that more than 90 of Arpaio's Maricopa County jail officers could no longer check whether inmates were in the county illegally.

The decision followed the release of a scathing Department of Justice report that said Arpaio's office has a pattern of racially profiling Latinos. The sheriff has denied the allegations.

3. Too bad the feds don't do their job
Then Arpaio wouldn't have had to start doing it in the first place.

He's a right-wing piece of shit, but it sucks that the feds are saying, "We won't do our job, and neither can you." It's one of those situations where you hate both parties involved because it's an asshole-fest.

10. Because people can't just waltz into whatever country they want to
We can't just move to Canada because we can't find jobs here. I don't know why Mexicans seem to think the USA is supposed to ignore the laws that apply to all other immigrants.

12. Entering America
by people of color has always been difficult unless they are actors, musicians or diplomats.Canadians have very little trouble entering this country,is there racism involved, you damn right there is?.When will the average citizen wake up and realize we live in a country, that less than three hundred years bought and sold humans beings?I've lived on both the southern and northern borders,In Michigan and North Dakota American and Canadians crossed freely, here in Arizona you can't drive any place without seeing Border patrol,I have yet to see an Anglo stopped, every time it's a Mexican and we are told there is no racial profiling?I am not buying that bull I've seen with my own eyes racism in action and it's not a pretty thing.Sheriff need to go.

8. Doing what? Racially profiling people?
Immigration is at a 60 year low. And the Obama administration has picked up more undocumented workers that Bush did in both terms. There are thousands of kids now in foster care who may never see their parents again because of "feds doing their jobs".

9. Children of any criminal can face foster care
The parents, not the feds, are to blame. If you know that you could get caught, deported, and possibly lose your child, any reasonable person would not take that risk.

My neighbors are foster parents, and they get kids of all races, whose parents got arrested for breaking the law. It's not the policemen/women's fault for arresting the parents, it's the parents' fault for breaking the law in the first place.

Enforcing the law is not "racial profiling". Racial profiling is suggesting that we should make ONE race exempt from immigration laws.

Immigrate legally, and you won't have a problem. It's that simple.

15. The Justice Department disagrees with you, thank heavens.

Tell you what, I'll shut down all the jobs in your town and then let's see how long you stay there. That's exactly what NAFTA did to southern Mexico. You don't like people migrating to avoid starvation, that's tough. People are going to try to survive.

7. It never really hit me until today how crucial Janet Napolitano was
in promoting and in enabling that POS Arpaio. Knowing what he was because he helped her get elected gov, she set him up to showcase ICE collaboration with local venues. That's despicable.

14. My source for this comment is a reporter at the Phoenix Times
in this interview with Amy Goodman yesterday:

STEPHEN LEMONS: Its a very good point. They were always allies, to some degree, even though theyre in different parties. Napolitano is a conservative Democrat and, you know, partnered with Arpaio to some to degree. Arpaio endorsed her run for governor the first time around. And theyve been, you know, tacit allies. The Republican Party even accused Arpaio of getting Napolitano elected to governor, because he did a campaign commercial on her behalf, first time around. She helped him get the 287(g) agreement. She was instrumental in that. As far as theyou know, in finally removing the 287(g) from the jails, I believe that ICE wasI dont know that they were necessarily in the loop as far as what the DOJs Civil Rights Division was going to do. They
