41. LOL
Good one...

The militarization of local police is a big problem. The federal government's latest bureacracy---the Department of Homeland Security---pays for equipment used by local police to abuse its citizens.

Now in the U.S., the Department of Homeland Security is the U.S. version of the old KGB.

64. You are so right. In the shadow - stories about the prisons and what looks like stockpiles of
plastic coffins, plus stories of family prisons - filled with Mexicans and their children just as many others are still empty. I'm not hinting that the empty ones are for more Mexicans or Muslims ... judging from the military handling of protestors it can be for all of us who think we have the amendments behind us. I am more convinced that the country is being run according to a revised Constitution or a new Constitution or a series of breaking in Constitutions.

We through out Habeas Corpus. We can also have a secret new Constitution - secret to the public - for now I'll call it the Pepper Spray Peak At Constitution.

I would like to see a list of everyone arrested, their version of what happened, the charge against them, and the outcome.

8. One is a lot worse than the other.
Been doing some research on why this is happening, and the more I learn, the more outraged I feel. Wish I hadn't started. All I can say is that something is very, very wrong here, way more so than we thought.

I don't how it can be fixed. My only hope is in the fact that history shows us that at times like the ones we are living in, when it seemed impossible to change things, the human spirit often prevailed. But not without a lot of suffering.

10. Suffering...yes...
But as Gandhi said (paraphrasing), tyrants always fall and the power of good and love always prevail.

We all need to understand: the good ole U. S. Of A. Is no longer by the people and for the people...it has been fully coopted by very wealthy interested. This is what we must fight (peacefully) against.

And we must be prepared for it being a very long fight.

our police departments especially, but haven't managed to get it done so far. I keep finding more and it gets exhausting when you realize how much needs to be reformed and the question I am now asking myself, is it too late? I am normally optimistic, but lately, not so much :-(

Looking at this OP eg, I am reminded of what I read recently about the Oakland police training with the Bahrain police and the Israeli border police who also have a reputation of tremendous human rights abuses against the Palestinians. My question is, 'why are our police training side by side with the police departments of a dictatorship like Bahrain? And this, AFTER that country's brutal and murderous crackdown on its own citizens?

But then I think in a way it explains the behavior of the Oakland Police who nearly killed two Iraq Veterans. But what can be done about it since our Government appears to either not care or be complicit? We now have to depend on the UN to defend American citizens from the brutality of their own police departments? I am glad the UN is taking an interest, but how bad is it when we need outside interference?

54. Method #147
As in Gene Sharp's method #147 out of 198*: Deliberate inefficiency and selective noncooperation by enforcement agents.

So far, we have only seen a couple of police chiefs ignore a mayor's orders to crack down, but in time this number must grow. Police need to be reminded that old attack dogs don't get to sleep on the porch, they get euthanized to save on dog food. Every time a cop's family is denied a medical procedure by an insurance company, they need to be asked "now are you in the 99%"?

Even the most dim-witted of cops needs to come to the realization that after all the pepper is sprayed and all the heads are busted and all the tents are trashed, they will still be in foreclosure because the 1% want their house and their pension.

That is the question that they need to be continually asked: "now are you in the 99%"?

*The entire list can be found here: http://www.aeinstein.org/organizations/org/198_methods.pdf

government is showing clearly that they were ready for this. They were prepared and acted quickly to brutalize and terrorize. They know this has to be stopped and they will do what ever they have to to end this.

My heart goes out to our hero's in the streets.

Answered this question with a Google search. The airport security procedures are just about as annoying and time-consuming as our own.

Does the Russian government read and collect your e-mails?

How do the laws regarding privacy and human rights compare?

68. Let me share a personal story about the Moscow police
I once witnessed a man beat to a pulp outside of a subway station in Moscow. The man on the receiving end of the beating was obviously highly intoxicated and not fighting back. That didn't stop his attacker from punching and kicking until the man was on the ground, then repeatedly jamming his knee in to the guy's face. It lasted an excruciatingly long time and there was blood everywhere. It was by far the most brutal beating I have ever witnessed in my life.

Two police officers watched the whole beating without attempting to intervene. Once it was over they walked over to the attacker and shook his hand. Then they left, leaving the beaten man writhing in slow motion on the ground.

They've also been known to come down pretty hard on gay pride parades as well:
