American beauty pageant contestant posts racist rant during visit to Philippines.
It was all over facebook today about the racist wall post of Miss USA Candidate for Miss Earth Pageant Nicole Lynn.

In her Facebook wall post it says:

“I hardly made it to Manila and we already attended a ridiculous tv show. So annoying!!! These people want to touch you and be with you all the time!! I can’t understand a word they say. I can’t wait to go back home. This country is so dirty and noisy. I’m scared to eat!!! What a mess. On a lighter note I don’t see any real competition. Will keep you updated my loves.”

It says that last Friday the Miss Earth candidates visited the local TV Show of Willie Revillame the “Wil Time Big Time”. Few hour later that facebook post in her wall was posted. (Check on the attached photo for the screen shot of the wall post of Miss USA.)

A lot of people reacted irritably of the racist comment about the Philippines and the Filipino people. Majority said she should be sent home before the pageant night. But lately, Nicole recorded a video of herself and uploaded it on youtube explaining that her Facebook account was being hacked and she immediately deleted the racist post.

2. That is not racist but it is xenophobic.
I think dumbing down and diluting the concept of racism is not a very good thing.

Ignorance is ugly in all its forms, but racism is racism and not mere xenophobia.

But that TV show is horrible and it would not be nice to be touched all the time.

3. I disagree. Think about how and where she grew up.
This is an alien land to her. Throw off the handlers and her parents, and she might have a great time (and get righteously laid, too boot). Then, ask her those questions.

This whole beauty pageant thing is sick, disgusting and unAmerican. I worked a pageant as a kid... "mommy, can I still have a puppy if I don't win?" "NO!!!!11!!!1!11" She was three. Thankfully, I've never had to work another pageant in my lifetime.

We don't have enough issues without sexualizing three year olds?

14. Screw the the three year olds. Beauty pageants are 100 fucking percent AMERICAN.
The whole idea of EXTREME PUBLIC acclamations of individual superiority (whatever the field of endeavour) is very, very American.

The sexualising of kindergarteners is a just one of many symptoms of a much larger problem: "lookit me" syndrome.

5. Reminds me of a story a friend told me
She was in the Philippines on a vacation and was repeatedly mistaken for Scarlett Johannsson. Everywhere she went, she was mobbed for autographs. She finally started signing autographs, but used her real name. The people would thank her and walk away excited to have the autograph of an American movie star.

7. Whatever this is a little bit racist but let me break it down for you, including Judgmental reaction
It looks like her name is Nicole Kelley, not Nicole Lynn, so I dunno what's up with that, but whatever.

What she said could be offensive to people in any country, in this case it is the Philippenes.

She is kind of young. If she's never traveled outside the US before to a lower-income company, that is pretty much a natural reaction that alot of people would have, if they weren't warned ahead of time what to expect. It's very different there than in the US.

What she said was rude and it just seems like she was experiencing some culture shock, and didn't think before she spoke.

But then she tried to cover up by saying here facebook was hacked.... whatever who cares.

Here is the break down:

“I hardly made it to Manila and we already attended a ridiculous tv show."
- Judgement:That's not racist.

"So annoying!!! These people want to touch you and be with you all the time!!"
- Judgement: That's accidental racism. It comes off as racist but it was an accident. She was pointing out a cultural difference.

"I can’t understand a word they say. I can’t wait to go back home."
- Judgement: That's more xenophobic than racist. You kind of almost feel bad for her but not too much, because what was she expecting. I think it comes off as a little racist.

"This country is so dirty and noisy. I’m scared to eat!!! What a mess."
- Judgement: Not racist. This is "Accidentally Offensive to the Philippenes".

"On a lighter note I don’t see any real competition. Will keep you updated my loves."
- Judgement: This demonstrates than she is insane.

Final Judgement: This is not a racist, this is just an ignorant *****.

8. Point taken
I'm probably more sensitive than most considering that my wife is from the Philippines. Part of MY reaction stems from that fact that she's given his wonderful opportunity to travel at an age much younger than when I first got to go overseas, and this was her reaction. She'll look back at this one day and see a real missed opportunity.

10. Unlikely

I have found the maxim "travel broadens the mind" not to apply to those to whom travel merely confirms prejudices.

Some people are not open to the unusual, surprising and serendipitous things that happen when you fling yourself into a really different place than what you are used to.

15. I remember being so
embarrassed in the Azores while there on a vacation. There were some American air force people sitting at a table near us who loudly were saying,
"Is this food safe? Who knows what they put in there" and so on.
The food was excellent and this was a well known restaurant there. The epitome of the stereotypical ugly american.

There is nothing racist at all in her facebook post.

Good chance this is her first time in a 3rd world country and yes parts of them are dirty, noisy, and the food is not what a typical American is used to eating
.... she just posted her reactions of being out of her comfort zone.

13. a lot of Western people go into a state of shock when they visit a third world country for the first
time. Others are fascinated. I have flown into Manila no less than a couple dozen times myself. Like other massive metropolitan conglomerates in the developing world - be it Cairo, Bangkok, Mumbai or numerous other places they are sure to be quite overwhelming for someone who has never ventured outside of the first world. They are going to appear utterly chaotic, noisy and indeed dirty. A certain frame of mind will be completely fascinated and want to see all they can. Another more provincial frame of mind will be repulsed. It would be a going a bit too far to call Ms. Lynn's comments racist. Narrow and provincial would be more accurate. Although I do have to admit, where I am at now in the Marianas - Filipino television is on all the time. Especially if one walks into any number of business establishments here. My idea of hell would be having to spend eternity on day time Filipino television variety shows.
