Researchers call for monitoring of arsenic levels in rice
I thought there were folks doing stuff like this already?

Currently there are no limits on the amount of allowable arsenic in rice in the USA. But the Environmental Protection Agency has set arsenic limits in water of 10 parts per billion. Researchers in a paper in Monday's Proceedings of the National Acaemy of Sciences report that women who ate the national average of half a cup of cooked rice a day in the two days prior to urine collection, ingested an amount of arsenic equivalent to drinking four and a quarter cups of water a day containing arsenic at the maximum allowable level set by the EPA.

The findings are worrisome enough that researchers are calling on the Food and Drug Administration to regulate the amount of allowable arsenic in rice.

1. free market
in the free market consumers will not buy the rice with bad levels of arsenic so we don't need the fda... or the epa... we should put that money into defense! We need more weapons/troops to protect america.

2. But Ron Paul insists the rice should monitor itself
See, government's the problem -- not the solution.

4. It probably never occurred to them that rice would contain arsenic.
It never occurred to me either. We need to do this. We need to keep our food safe.
