Right wing republicanism has infected and killed so many churches in America.

They are blind and their hearts are hardened by the love of money.

52. Historically, America has been that heartless all along.
With a few shining moments of reform, then a cycle back to rich/poor discrepancies.
but not just America...recall the stories of Dickens' London...the workhouses, the debtor jails, the bulging orphanages.
the last 2 major periods of reform were in Roosevelt's 1930's and LNJ's War on Poverty.
Now the cycle is swinging, as it does, to the right, and it will continue until enough people band together to make it stop.
Most cycles last 20-30 years...average.

12. Wasn't that what that nice lad was all about, though?
Feeding the hungry, clothing and sheltering the poor, caring for the sick, destitute, etc?

The only time Jesus got pissed was in the temple, at those moneychangers. Other than that, he was pretty accepting of all sorts, and a nice fellow--by all historical reports, anyway.

"...What if God was one of us.

but to shepards and street people, hookers and bums..."

I can never understand someone claiming to be a follower of Jesus Christ, condemning the poor, the sick, the homeless, and unemployed to damnation for the "sin" of no $$$!

It is soo damn wrong on every level imaginable and if you are a believer as I am, Jesus himself will tell it to their faces someday!

36. Love the sentiment....
But we all know that "Jeebus" is a meaningless cipher for the right wing...their version conveniently omits the love, peace and caring and focuses everything on retribution and vengeance. What amazes me is sheer volume of hatred for their fellow man that the right wing is capable of spewing forth.

55. True. And they will also claim that it means charity and
not government involvement.

Of course the government has to be fair. But a charity can discriminate or attempt to control people they help. And that's what right wingers crave. People to control, to feel superior to.

47. Finally, a Christian group on-line I can join!
From their website: "Bottom Line: We welcome ALL to their place at God’s table, just as they are. All means ALL. No exceptions. We reject all attempts to define our Faith by the two wedge issues of Gay Marriage and Abortion." Damn straight.

62. My elderly Uncle George...
...often forwards Christian chain email to me. Most recently, he sent one about how hanging bird feeders just encourages lazy, unwanted, parasitic birds to plague your lawn. It was apparently somehow a retelling of some Bible story that obviously meant that social welfare creates bums. I really don't remember the details, but it was something like that. It's hard for me to know how to respond because he's very old, and I think his growing attachment to religious propaganda is an expression of dementia.

Anyway, I am going to send him this.

64. Conservatives will revise the Bible before they will reconsider.

Honestly, they're doing it at Conservapedia. They're convinced that Jesus actually meant something else and those liberal translators have been corrupting his real words all these centuries.

You talk about inviting a schism and a religious war. If this comes to fruition, it would officially make conservatism into either a sect or a cult depending on your semantics.

It does a present the question: why the Hell would any God pass his word off in a way where it must become corrupted? Can't he just talk to everyone, including the sinful, the way he talked to Moses, Joshua, the Prophets, all those people, including the sinful, and not bother to have any of it written and communicated through flawed human beings? Why all these middlemen who are indistinguishable from cult leaders like Jim Jones or L. Ron Hubbard?

Since I'm an atheist, I could ask these questions without

74. The Red Letter Christians
This is an organization that promotes a kind of Christianity that focuses on Jesus words in the Bible before all else. They are anti-war and against capital punishment and are for helping those in need. You wouldn't think this would be radical, after all the term Christian has the name of that religious figure right in its title. But their founder Tony Campolo has been barred from speaking in many southern "Christian" churches. It doesn't fit with many of these neoChristian beliefs. ie. War is good. Fear those who don't look like you. Hate your enemies. God likes you if you are rich and hates you if you are poor. Eye for and Eye. etc..

76. I'm surprised by everyone's reaction to this poster....
because of course Jesus would never react that way. He would forgive him/her their sins and
love the person regardless...Jesus would probably thank the person for their concern that
he had no job, and offer to do some work for him. His concern, always, would be for the
person who was having a problem, and doing so, would "teach" him a lesson.
