100s of OccupyLA Arrestees Still Held, Some Forced to Urinate Selves

Hundreds of OccupyLA Demonstrators Still Held Without Charges on $5,000 Bail in Often Deplorable, Illegal and Unconstitutional Conditions
Arrestees kept on buses for hours, forced to urinate self, deprived of water, medical aid or legal assistance...

Much of the good will and plaudits earned by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck for their "minimal use of force" tactics employed to clear OccupyLA demonstrators from City Hall Park earlier this week has been quickly squandered in the hours and days since. The BRAD BLOG has learned that hundreds of peaceful arrestees were kept in often deplorable conditions in the hours following their apprehension.

According to new interviews with some of the arrestees following their release, men and women alike were held without charges for hours on end, forced to urinate in their seats on a holding bus while handcuffed, cut off from attorneys, medical supplies and drinking water, and locked away with punitively high bails while being deprived of both humane and Constitutional rights.

At this hour, almost three full days since their arrest at the OccupyLA encampment in front of Los Angeles City Hall, more than 200 of the peaceful demonstrators detained by LAPD in the evening on Tuesday and early morning hours on Wednesday --- many of them who were not even participating in the Occupation --- are still being held in jail pending $5,000 bail for their misdemeanor detentions, as detailed by radio station KPCC. Approximately fifty people have been released, some after posting bail, others for medical reasons.

KPCC went on to report that on Thursday, only 19 of those people had yet to be charged. The City Attorney's office said that, depending on the charge, some would face bail as high as $20,000.

This morning, Los Angeles Times reported that most of the 19 who were allowed to appear in L.A. County Superior Court Thursday, were released without bail, but on the "condition that they not return to the City Hall area, where the protesters had camped." The Times went on to note that most of those still held without being charged have no criminal record...

Bust the budget. Bonding out just makes money for bondsmen and reduces jail costs.

My atty. says that I don't have to accept a PR bond.

Unless something is done about the cruelty and outrageous bonds, I'm afraid many will be deterred from protests in the future. So much for our Constitutional rights.

37. It's something we should expect from fascists.
Remember this? It's where we are.

"The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater."

20. Lawsuits against the LAPD need to start NOW.
Stay strong protesters and keep the PEACEFUL movement going.

Also, start contacting legal organizations and start massive lawsuits against the LAPD and city of Los Angeles for their civil rights violations. This has got to stop! The way to stop it, in addition to the OWS Los Angeles protests, is to take LEGAL action against those who have attacked you. I don't know who, but perhaps Occupy LA should contact OWS in New York and get ideas and names of organizations on how they fought back in NY and are winning.

Meanwhile, the world is watching. Check this out:

The United Nations is criticizing the US for the way they have been treating the PEACEFUL protesters:
"La Rue said he is in the process of writing what he called "an official communication" to the U.S. government "to ask what exactly is the position of the federal government in regards to understanding the human rights and constitutional rights vis-a-vis the use of local police and local authorities to disband peaceful demonstrations."
Although the letter will not carry any legal authority, it reflects how the violent suppression of dissent threatens to damage the U.S.'s international reputation."

I was at the GA tonight & they are keep a close eye on those still incarcerated.

We had a march today and the cops jumped another one of our fellow Occupiers and he's in in jail...his name is Anthony. He did nothing illegal & was knocked off his bicycle and pinned down by three cops. It was total bullshit & I saw everything as did hundreds on Broadway...and we got video.

Stay safe Anthony...we are there for you.

25. The good and the bad
I feel for the people in prison. At the same time, This is exactly what we need to have happen to create change. As long as they can jail us for protesting, and then send us on our way a few hours later, with a promise to be a "good boy" and not protest no more, all we have done is change the focus of the public debate. Which is good, don't get me wrong, but I don't think its enough.

We need more people in jail. We need to fill every cell they have, plus more. plus still have thousands in the streets and the parks With people who say "this is my inalienable right, and even if a judge rules against me, I still believe in my constitutional/inherent rights. And if you let me go, I will go right back to join the movement. We need to flood the system with more than it can handle.

I personally feel until we can put 10,000 or 100,000 or more people sustainably on the streets in protest, day after day, all of them fully committed do do whatever it takes, non violently, to achieve change, We will not see the change we need. At best we will get some window dressing and attempts to make the destruction of our country a bit more comfortable.

And Sandusky is out on bail -- very limited bail as I recall!!!

the "city of angels" hahaha; aka the city where fascism is both accepted and goes unchallenged; where fascism began long before it began to surface
in much of the country, discounting the south still living in an era of slavery.

Shower the city with thousands of million dollar lawsuits. Many honest lawyers have come to our rescue... There must be a few honest judges left...though that is a question yet to be answered.

Bankrupt this morally bankrupt city with the best and most powerful lawyering known to man.

We are in no less of a calamitous era, than that brought us the Founding Fathers.

History will look back on this vicious era of fascism, with many clucks and much "thats a nono" not to be repeated, derision; once again after the better part of a century; to be forgotten and repeated.

Like marionettes in a dancing clock, circling in and out of history, we go on repeating history, even the most heinous bits.

Those who brought this on, however, will not be forgotten in the history books; much as Hitler and his cadre have not been forgotten.

'Dastardly' still lives and is embodied in the "drug wars", destroying every life it touches and every life touching it; '

This formidable jackboot army, now brought to bear on those who would challenge a corrupt system gone totally insane, slobbering and frothing at the mouth, from power and greed.

The police profession seems to attract sadistic social deviants with 'potty' issues.

It is totally immoral to treat others in this way.
It kind of defeats the whole "health and sanitation" memo that the mayors and their federal and corporate handlers have been pushing.

I mean, how healthy and sanitary is sitting in your own body waste?

38. They are getting close to torture with these tactics.
Soon, Americans will have to ask for outside help to protect them against their own government.

The silence of the government on these brutal attacks on American Citizens exercising their rights, or what they thought were their rights, speaks volumes. It says to me, and I am entitled to my opinion, that the government approves of it.
