Need DU help for my local library................

My township's library is independent from the township, though it is located in the township building and has been able to use meeting rooms in the building for their many and varied programs. This is the library's home page.

This past month the township commissioners have decided not to extend the use of large rooms for the library to utilize. They have decided that the library can use a small room only. When the commissioners were asked what the library was to do with parents and caregivers who bring their children to these programs (not enough room in small room for them); the library reps were told, "they (parents and caregivers) could stand in the hallway."

Now let me tell you about some of the programs the library has. Lap time story telling for children 0 months to 2 years, story time for kids 2-6, learn to play chess, adult book club, teen reading programs and many more I won't list.

I will tell you why I think the commissioner's decision not to extend the use of larger rooms is based on their perception of the make up of our community and is racist. Our township within the past few years has had a large influx of immigrants from India. Many of these men and women are on HB-1(?) visas, working in a local firm. Many of the family members attend the local universities, find jobs and attend the local public schools. Some of the high school students participate in the many clubs and sports, including football. Had a nephew who played football with the students and said that the kids were pretty good and enjoyed the game.

I have been at the library and seen the parents of the kids sign their kids up for the different activities at the library. ALL PROGRAMS ARE FREE.

The library seeing the influx of these immigrants, have met the needs of these new library consumers, by adding a whole new section of Hindi film DVDs and books. I honestly believe that the commissioner's are unhappy with what the library has done for the new residents of our community and is penalizing it.
