Possible candidate for Barney Frank's seat: Joseph Kennedy III
Edited on Fri Dec-02-11 02:40 AM by Tx4obama

Just now caught the tail end of Joy Behar's interview with Barney Frank and she asked him about Joseph Kennedy III being a possible replacement for his seat. Barney basically said he wasn't going to endorse anyone yet, but would speak out if any of the folks that run are not to his liking then he would speak up (paraphrased)

Another Kennedy in the House, to Replace Barney Frank?

A new generation of Kennedys could be headed for Washington as Joseph Kennedy III, one of Robert Kennedy’s grandsons, acknowledges that he is eyeing retiring Democratic Rep. Barney Frank’s Massachusetts seat.

Kennedy, 31, told the Boston Herald that he is considering running for the seat, which Frank has held for more than three decades.

If he won, he would be the first Kennedy to hold elected office since Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy — his first cousin once removed — decided against running for a ninth House term last year.

When a Herald reporter asked whether he would run, Kennedy replied, “I just haven’t had the time to give it any thought, the type of careful consideration that it requires.

Kennedy, 31, is an assistant district attorney in Middlesex County. He does not live in the 4th Congressional District, but residency is not required.

District 4

Democrat Barney Frank, who has represented the 4th district since 1981, will retire rather than run for re-election. State senator Cynthia Creem; Deborah Goldberg, the former chairwoman of the Brookline Board of Selectmen; Joseph P. Kennedy III, a Middlesex County assistant district attorney and member of the Kennedy family; Alan Khazei, the co-founder of the City Year non-profit organization; Brookline Selectwoman Jesse Mermell; state senator Marc Pacheco; state senator Mike Rodrigues; Boston City Councilman Michael P. Ross; Bristol County District Attorney Samuel Sutter; state senator James Timilty; and state representative James Vallee, may seek the Democratic nomination to succeed Frank. Setti Warren, the mayor of Newton, will not run.

Elizabeth Childs, a psychiatrist and member of the Brookline School Committee, will seek the Republican nomination. State representative Jay Barrows; Sean Bielat, a technology executive who unsuccessfully challenged Frank as the Republican nominee in 2010; former Hopkinton Selectman Brian Herr; Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson; and state senator Richard Ross, may also seek the Republican nomination. State representative Dan Winslow will not run.

I'd rather see a couple Kennedys in Congress than some of the crazy republicans that are already there ;)
