It's funny how chefs jazz up the names of their dishes. This is essentially salad, steak w/vegetables, apple crisp, and pie.

| 134. it probably refers to vegetable marrow-a term for the centers of root vegetables |
|
which is often pureed in gourmet dishes, especially in Europe.
But still...this is a Democratic fundraising dinner...they're not supposed to serve ultra-fancy chow at things like that.

I know a lot of us got wrapped up in hope and change, but please this election cycle, don't send him money that you can put to better use.
I remember last time reading of people who sent him $25-50 when they didn't have it to give.
With people donating $35K for a dinner with him, Obama will be ok. Donate if you can afford it and if it doesn't hurt you, but please take care of yourself first.

I found the organization for which he is attending the fundraiser, but the money is not going to the Obama campaign. You cannot donate that much money to a presidential candidate's campaign fund; it's illegal (I wonder how many people dissing this fundraiser even know that).

They should be serving weenies & beans or Ramen or how about some thin gruel washed down with brackish water? It must be a coincidence, I picked up a Nimen Ranch Steak and some Nimen Ranch pork chops earlier today. A couple of our local markets offer Nimen Ranch meats. They're not the most expensive meats these places carry but they're mighty good. I'll be having a rib eye tomorrow and I won't be spending $35k on any politician. Bon appetite Mr. President. edit to add a link to Nimen Ranch http://www.nimanranch.com/Index.aspx

Give him $35K, and he probably won't remember your name for more than a few seconds after the handshake. But don't expect to get an actual conversation with Mr. Obama for that amount. It only gets you in the room with him.
If you want a really favor, you probably have to shell out at least $1,000,000. At that level, Mr. Obama will at least acknowledge you exist, and might even consider giving you whatever you're seeking.

...that we have five out of nine members of our Supreme Court who decided that corporations are people and that they can spend as much money as they like on political campaigns, leaving the President and all other politicians no other choice but to raise this kind of money. What makes me ill is all the people who prefer to bash the President for doing something these assholes forced him to do.
And, the only thing "pretentious" about that meal is the names on the dishes. All it is is steak and onion rings with carrots as a side dish, and pie and apple crisp for dessert. Big fucking whoop.

...the strudel goes for $14, the steak for $48, can't find the salad but similar ones are in the $20 range. Of course booze and wine will up that price, so something around $200 each for all the bells and whistles.
As for the rest...that's what makes it a fundraiser. It ain't the food they're dishing out for.

I'm always impressed by those, right and left, who demand that Obama fly coach and eat Ramon noodles, just like every other US President has.

like the WH. "the president should work out of a rowhouse in DC, not a palace" people wailing and crying about the cost of the inauguration. and these were DUers, not freepers. and people have only gotten wierder since then.

I only joined in May 2007.
From them until Obama took office, DU was a powerful source that I used to counter right wing nuttery.
But it seems that minutes after Obama won the election, even before he took office, that changed.
Claims on DU that Obama hated the left started to surface before he was sworn in. And they've been building every since.
It is now common for Obama to be attacked from the right, and the left (on DU) on the same issue, but for totally opposite reasons.
I think the larger goal is to drive down Dem turn out, and increase GOP turn out. Which would give one of the GOP nuts a chance to win in 2012.

But I kinda saw that he was going to go where he went with everything, picking middle of the road all the way, keeping Hillary on for SoC (that was one that caused a lot of arguments, it was like Obama was embracing Satan with the really toxic 2008 primaries).
I agree that the goal is to drive down Democratic turnout. People are already making these really bold statements like "I'll vote Dem up and down, but that's about it." Word to the wise, if you don't get out the vote in 2010 or 2008 or just in general, 2012 will be a pivotal year to do so.

Amazing, isn't it! And yet he should be FDR and LBJ and Churchill wrapped up in one! But not himself - well himself would be a black man. So he should just copy an earlier white Democratic President. But it was OK for them to live in the WH and go to fundraisers.

Democrats always use NY as their personal piggy bank. Today was also the lighting of the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. The city was a nightmare to navigate. Who plans these things? They couldn't have scheduled these fundraisers on a different day?

|
$35,8000 for a sit down dinner, and an additional $10,000 per person at another fundraiser on the Upper East side. Something is really wrong with this system. It has to be changed.
Unemployment, foreclosures, millions more children living in poverty, just imagine what that kind of money could do to help them. Shelters, food banks are all suffering from a lack of funds right now. It's a terrible situation. All we hear is that the money isn't there to keep these things going. But if it's for a fundraiser, suddenly enormous amounts of money appears. It's almost like saying: "Let them eat cake"
To add insult to injury, the traffic jam his appearance caused tonight was horrific. I understand there needs to be additional security when a President comes to town, but of all nights, it was planned for the same night of the lighting of the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center? That brings out thousands of people to begin with. It's free & It's usually a great night for the kids. But Bloomberg's "army" had to be in full force. Streets blocked off, you couldn't walk , you couldn't drive, you couldn't move, all because of the Fundraisers. People were getting really pissed off. Terrible planning. Terribly inconsiderate.
