Protester Miscarriage Story May Be False
This story of a protester supposedly being hit in the the stomach and pepper sprayed by police when she told them she was two or three months pregnant (never was a definite answer on which) and ended up miscarrying that got a lot of attention very recently here...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=2359626&mesg_id=2359626

Now may turn out to be false after all...

<snip>
KIRO Radio first obtained the police report from Sept. 22, 2011. Seattle police had responded to a vacant building located in 1250 Denny Way where a security officer reported five squatters. One of those people, according to police sources, was 19-year-old Jennifer Fox.

According to the report, Fox told an officer she was three months pregnant and began crying when arrested.

"(Fox) began holding her stomach and was screaming when she was arrested," read the report. (Fox) was treated at the scene and transported to HMC."

When asked by KIRO FM about the police report, she denied remembering the incident. Then, Fox changed her story and said that the "police report must have been wrong," because she told police she was one month pregnant at the time.

...

The story goes on to say that her last foster mom said that she's a "compulsive liar" and a "wannabe drama queen."

After all this and the previous police report I really don't think she was a protester at all but a homeless young woman that took advantage of the protesters camping out to gain a place to stay and food to eat (which I think anyone else in her circumstances would have done as well).

It appears that the pregnancy/miscarriage story is what she uses to try to avoid trouble or gain sympathy in a bad situation, and sadly it seems like what she has said about the supposed pregnancy is something that she would like her life to be rather than what it is. Just sad all the way around.

1. The homeless are not allowed to be OWS protesters?
I want to be clear about what you are saying. Mayor Bloomberg said something similar.

the poster just updated on the situation from info. she had. Nobody said that the homeless couldn't be OWS protesters.

15. Because this old technical writer likes to understand confusion, could you quote in OP what lead
you to this question, please?

Thanks!

2. Not sure exactly why
but her story didn't have the ring of truth to me.

(Jennifer) "... Fox continues, a Seattle police officer lifted his foot and it hit her in the stomach."

If it was a kick, why was it not called a kick?

4. That's sad.
When I initially read about this, I kind of had my doubts.

5. If the 'miscarry' story turns out to be false, that will ruin a lot of perfectly
good outrage here.

7. Seriously. I expressed skepticism at the time and folks jumped all over me.
Whatever. It's easier to be outraged than to use your head sometimes.

14. I kept mine to myself...
my skepticism, I mean.

Not that I didn't believe she was pregnant, but I questioned whether the incident had anything to do with her "miscarriage".

I didn't even mention it, knowing what the reaction would have been. Sometimes it gets really tiresome being a skeptic when the other 95% are all too happy to believe whatever seems to support their own particular prejudices, and have no problem at all hurling nasty words at anyone who bursts their little balloons...

8. Then violence by police on OWS protesters is ok. OWS is now discredited.

12. See post 10.
Since I have participated in Occupy actions, I certainly don't want violence against myself.

13. Ingenious plan! This will make Repukes go around saying Fox is lying!
I really hope the story is false, because it was so sad.
