Judge bans Jerry Sandusky, attorney from using a victim's name publicly

A judge has agreed to bar Jerry Sandusky and his attorney from identifying one of the alleged eight victims named in a child sex abuse investigation.

The order includes any mention of his identity at a preliminary hearing, now scheduled to happen in Centre County court Dec. 13.

The order also requires the court clerk and district court to keep "John Doe'' and his family's identities confidential.

Victims of sexual abuse are not named in most news accounts because of media policies designed to protect the victims. However, the names are made public in court documents and as part of the court record.
