Me, my Mom, her pal and my good friend (her son) go on a yearly shopping trip to the outlets around the holiday time. Friday may be the only day we are all free to go.
I never shop on Black Friday usually because I don't like the crowds or traffic, and simply because I really don't ever have that much to buy.

I am shopping for winter clothing and some other things that go on sale at rock bottom prices. Socks, shoes and boxer shorts for my husband.

Oh like you don't buy STUFF for yourself or as gifts for others and just sit in an empty house out of principle. And you always insist on paying full price when you're offered it on sale on principle. And you just never shop when you feel you need STUFF for yourself or others because you're so deathly afraid of appearing as though you're jumping when a store figuratively "snaps its fingers" so you'll just walk around in wet socks because there's holes in your shoes, wear dirty clothes because the washing machine broke and accept holiday gifts from others without reciprocating on principle. Pfffttt.

Jeez, there just isn't any other example of greed in this country other than bashing people that buy STUFF for themselves and others and take advantage of an offered bargain???

There is one more little thing I need for a gift exchange. If I go anywhere this weekend it will be to a locally owned business to pick something up for that. And that is only because of that movement to shop local instead of at the big stores this weekend.

45. Gift shopping is easy - one family doesn't exchange gifts

The other draws names so we only have to buy one gift. Hubby got his gift last week - an HD TV, refurbished model from NewEgg.com.

The biggest headache were gifts for a group I am in. We each buy one gift (that's the one I still need to buy) and have a gift exchange. One of the members is pregnant so we're having a "baby shower" (my first ever! How I made it to nearly 60 without every attending either a baby or wedding shower I don't know.) in conjunction with our December meeting. We're having the shower, a potluck brunch, gift exchange and cookie exchange.

Well, maybe I should go buy something for the new twin great nephews. A story book or Mother Goose would be perfect. I never, ever under any circumstances give toys. Every niece and nephew had far too many toys so I always gave books.

I started early Christmas shopping before we stopped giving gifts to everyone. I'd go to some of the local arts & crafts events and pick out original stuff that made me think of the people who were to get them. Now I tend to look online - Etsy is a good source. This year I found some things at the seminar I attended in September that were perfect for the niece I drew for gift exchange.

but I and my family LIKE Christmas. We buy gifts we think the person will like, enjoy giving them and enjoy receiving them. It is possible to do Christmas in a sensible way without either going overboard or getting rid of it compleletly. Christmas is only commercial if people buy into it that way.

Works been pretty busy lately - yeah, we're hiring - about 5-6 a month - and I'm the HR "department"! I was the EVERYTHING department, but now have 10 in the office to take up my slack. lol...

I had a "small fire" in my house that was supposed to take "two week tops" to fix - I'm on week 9 now I think. Half of everything I own is boxed up packed up and squished into the other half of the house. My youngest just turned 13, just finished football, and we're in the middle of Nutcracker season - so free time I don't have a lot of! I've also been spending what little free time I have lobbying the school board to make sure the continue the dual-language program into highschool like they PROMISED and are now trying to renege on. bleh.

Other than that - I'm just great! :D

I've recently seen media advertising for a Buy-Local movement asking everyone to make one purchase on Saturday at a local merchant's shop that they would otherwise have made at a big box store.
