Chase described Ballard’s testimony as “a huge victory for Jim Greer.”

He said it showed that Crist — entering his final year as governor — was in control and had authorized Greer to save money by taking fundraising out of the hands of an expensive contractor and do it himself, along with the party’s then-Executive Director Delmar Johnson.

Ballard testified that Crist made no mention of Victory Strategies LLC, the company Greer formed, Chase said. What Crist authorized, Ballard said, was a general shift in policy, according to Chase.

Crist, in an affidavit, has said he did not know that Greer had formed Victory Strategies and was part owner.
