Foaming-at-the-mouth rabid right wingers want to take the Rainbow flag away from Teh Gays
Religious Right Mad at Gays For Using Rainbow Symbol

The leader of a National Organization for Marriage (NOM) affiliate has demanded that opponents of marriage equality reclaim the rainbow from “the gay lobby.” Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, the founder and head of the Ruth Institute, which describes itself as “a project of the National Organization for Marriage,” told the right-wing American Family News Network’s OneNewsNow that the rainbow should be the symbol of Prop 8 supporters and Religious Right activists because "the rainbow is a sign of God's covenant with man." According to Morse, who was also a speaker on NOM’s “Summer for Marriage” bus tour, the rainbow has been wrongly appropriated by the LGBT community. Morse appears to channel the famous 2009 NOM “The Gathering Storm” TV-ad which said “a rainbow coalition of people of every creed and color” are uniting to stop the “gathering storm” of gay-rights advocates.

"Proposition 8 was passed by a great grassroots coalition that included people from all across the religious traditions, and also people of every race and color," Morse recognizes. "We are the real rainbow coalition. The gay lobby does not own the rainbow."

She tells OneNewsNow that she wore a rainbow-colored scarf to the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals hearing on Proposition 8 as a statement to signify that supporters of traditional marriage still own the symbol.

"We can't simply let that go by. Families put rainbows in their children's nurseries. Little Christian preschools will have rainbows...Noah's Ark and all the animals.... Those are great Christian symbols, great Jewish symbols," the Ruth Institute president points out.

The Ruth Institute’s projects include “bringing lectures and debates to pro-life, pro-marriage student groups around the country, at minimal cost to the students” and assisting “students in organizing pro-life, pro-family clubs on their own campuses.”

The main campaign of the Ruth Institute is “Gay Marriage Affects Everyone,” a seminar led by Morse on the dangers of same-sex marriage. Among the ways “gay marriage affects everyone,” writes Morse, include the notions that “same sex marriage will marginalize men from the family” and “increase the power of the state over civil society.”

2. hey, you moronic, mythologically-challenged fundie cretins-- THIS is the truth of the rainbow
Iris, goddess of the rainbow

IRIS was the goddess of the rainbow, the messenger of the Olympian gods. She was often represented as the handmaiden and personal messenger of Hera. Iris was a goddess of sea and sky--her father Thaumas "the wondrous" was a marine-god, and her mother Elektra "the amber" a cloud-nymph. For the coastal-dwelling Greeks, the rainbow's arc was most often seen spanning the distance beteween cloud and sea, and so the goddess was believed to replenish the rain-clouds with water from the sea. Iris had no distinctive mythology of her own. In myth she appears only as an errand-running messenger and was usually described as a virgin goddess. Her name contains a double meaning, being connected both with iris, "the rainbow," and eiris, "messenger."

Iris appears in ancient Greek vase painting as a beautiful young woman with golden wings, a herald's rod (kerykeion), and sometimes a water-pitcher (oinochoe) in her hand. She was usually depicted standing beside Zeus or Hera, sometimes serving nectar from her jug. As cup-bearer of the gods Iris is often indistinguishable from Hebe in art.

living in fundieville as I do, it gives me great pleasure to point out the pagan roots of everything they do, especially at this time of the year. I LOVE pointing out that xmas is OUR holiday, and that THEY stole all the rituals and celebrations from us. . .

21. Whats even more fun is telling them that at one time the folks they claim
are the real founding fathers, the Pilgrims, out lawed xmas. They only have vague notions on who the first settlers were in contrast to the myth's they were told about the brave settlers.

I am SICK OF foamers forcing this warped greedy CHRISTIANITY on this world..They want to usurp the US flag too..,not just ther rainbow..
http://www.auburn.edu/~allenkc/chrflag.html

If you notice they hang at THE SAME HIGHT!!This usurps the traditionalUSA flag's superior position.I think if they think that's ok I will fly the black and GAY flag equal to the US than and get the RAINBOW stars n stripes too.

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRvAOMckink6TxpBlmgmztINVqYS13uKaEhp1Ykon4gISsDoxtk
they are thieves of other religions and lives and governments because their own bibloidolatry is devoid of anything good..,I wish they'd go pray in a closet like their stupid gawd says to do..But they cherry pick, Regardless I want them to STFU
And leave US ALONE.

Go make your own rainbow fundies and remember your hideous god killed countless creatures even little babies and fetuses in that flood, and what? You love this god? Christianity is SICK. And they FEAR Gnosis. They will have to face up that their god isn't what they wanted it to be when enough gnosis gets unearthed and they can no longer deny original xtianity was very different than what these bibloidolatrus Pharisees thought.

Jesus may have been BISEXUAL,and baptism originally was done naked...
Morton Smith (1915-1991) wrote two books about the secret gospel of Mark. 5 In his 1973 book, "The Secret Gospel" which was intended for the general public, he wrote:
"From the scattered indications in the canonical Gospels and the secret Gospel of Mark, we can put together a picture of Jesus' baptism, 'the mystery of the kingdom of God.' It was a water baptism administered by Jesus to chosen disciples, singly and by night. The costume, for the disciple, was a linen cloth worn over the naked body. This cloth was probably removed for the baptism proper, the immersion in water, which was now reduced to a preparatory purification. After that, by unknown ceremonies, the disciple was possessed by Jesus' spirit and so united with Jesus. One with him, he participated by hallucination in Jesus' ascent into the heavens, he entered the kingdom of God, and was thereby set free from the laws ordained for and in the lower world. Freedom from the law may have resulted in completion of the spiritual union by physical union. This certainly occurred in many forms of Gnostic Christianity; how early it began there is no telling."

Charles W. Hedrick commented:

"Smith's conclusion was that Clement's letter was a genuine second-century text and that Secret Mark was also genuine, from the late first century. The Secret Gospel of Mark demonstrated that the Jesus movement had begun with a mystery-religion baptismal initiation: Jesus baptized each of his closest disciples into the mystery of the kingdom of God, 'singly and at night.' In his larger study Smith wrote: 'In this baptism the disciple was united with Jesus. The union may have been physical ... (there is no telling how far symbolism went in Jesus' rite), but the essential thing was that the disciple was possessed by Jesus' spirit.' This is how Smith put it in his more popular book: The disciple ecstatically 'entered the kingdom of God, and was thereby set free from the laws ordained for and in the lower world. Freedom from the law may have resulted in completion of the spiritual union by physical union'."

Smith speculated further that this spiritual union may have involved a physical union -- a homo erotic experience. If this were true, then the account of the near-naked man who loved Jesus takes on a new meaning.
