Give me a break. Allen West has 4 deputies at his town hall forum.

And he manages to make it sound like he is a victim and needs to be kept safe. This from the guy who told a right wing radio host he was going to bring "this leftwing vile, vicious, despicable machine that is out there" to its knees

The incoming congressman just called into Joyce Kaufman’s radio show and told her while she’s taking on the left in South Florida, he’II “fight them on the battle field in Washington DC.

“I’m even more commited, even more focused on making sure that this liberal, progressive, socialist agenda, this leftwing vile, vicious, despicable machine that is out there is soundly brought to its knees,” he said.

The Palm Beach Post today writes about his town hall forum in which he has a sheriff's deputy with a SWAT badge behind him, and 3 other deputies in the room.

Despite shootings, West plans to make meetings safe

A Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy with a SWAT badge stood behind Congressman Allen West when he spoke at the West Boca Chamber of Commerce meeting last week, in the aftermath of the Tucson shootings.

The deputy left the meeting with a violin-shaped black bag, and there were three other PBSO officers in the room at Boca Lago Country Club, although District 7 Commander Matt Eisenberg always attends the gathering and gives members an update on local crime issues.

Most of the local media came out to hear what the newly elected District 22 Republican had to say about the gunman who murdered six people and severely wounded Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords on Jan. 8 at her public meet-and-greet at a supermarket.

West made it clear the incident was the result of one deranged individual, and he didn't spend time discussing the climate of political vitriol or mention Sarah Palin.

The "deputy left the room with a violin-shaped bag." Gee, I wonder what was in it.

Guess the reporters are a little curious since he recently warned the press that he would be carrying a gun and would use it if necessary.

And, West reminded reporters on Tuesday, he has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, “and when it’s appropriate, I’ll take the necessary precautions.”

He's laughable.

6. One has to wonder...
"West made it clear the incident was the result of one deranged individual, and he didn't spend time discussing the climate of political vitriol or mention Sarah Palin."

If he believes this was just the act of a deranged individual, why the strong police presence? Methinks he doesn't believe hisownself.

16. Yessiree, that's my congresscritter.
FL-22 is so gerrymandered it's not funny. It runs from the very north end of Palm Beach County down to where I am in southwest Broward, which explains how the idiot Clay Shaw held the seat for 26 years.

18. Good grief, no wonder I couldn't find a good map of the district.
That's bad. And the question remains as to how he got elected? It's strange that area would be supportive of his rhetoric.

11. Interesting log post about a Tea Party leader in South Florida.
He stumped for West, Rubio, and Scott...god help us survive that trio.

http://blogs.browardpalmbeach.com/pulp/2011/01/tea_party_gabriel_jose_carrera.php

"Carrera was a local Tea Party leader, but what was he leading? What exactly is the Tea Party? Carrera can't seem to define it, though he takes a stab at defining himself.

"I don't like Republicans because they are bastards, and I don't like Democrats because they are assholes," he told me. "I try to be Gabe. I guess I consider myself a constitutional conservative."

"The movement is political backlash personified (with a Toby Keith soundtrack). It's known much better for what it despises -- immigration, Barack Obama, health-care reform, regulations of all kinds, liberals, and Democrats -- than anything it stands for.

So I turned to Carrera to find out what the Tea Party really is -- and after several hours of interviews, it turns out that, like the movement itself, Carrera is a mass of seeming contradictions. He's a former criminal gang member and drug addict who found God in what he describes as a jailhouse miracle. He was ordained as a Pentecostal minister by Ohio televangelist Rod Parsley in his late 20s and became a fundamentalist missionary. Even later in life, he went back to college and graduated from Nova Southeastern University Law School in 2005. But he still remains a fire-and-brimstone believer in what he calls "God's law."

A first-generation Cuban-American, he's stringently anti-immigration while at the same time representing illegal immigrants in court. He's deadset against Mexican immigration and was an early proponent of the wall on the border, but he supports opening the doors for Venezuelan immigrants who want to get away from leftist dictator Hugo Chavez."

14. Chan Lowe of the Sun Sentinel. Great cartoon of Allen West.

Chan Lowe: Allen West packs heat!

http://blogs.trb.com/news/opinion/chanlowe/blog/2011/01/chan_lowe_allen_west_packs_hea.html

"n the wake of the Giffords shooting, freshman U.S. Rep. Allen West has indicated that he possesses a concealed weapons permit, and plans to avail himself of it if and when he deems it necessary.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who has the bizarre distinction of being Rep. West’s representative in Congress (thanks to the fact that he doesn’t live in his district), has said that she prefers relying on a robust law enforcement presence at her events for her protection and that of her constituents. Neither one of them is right or wrong; the difference does, however, neatly exemplify the two representatives’ distinct views of the role of government.

I suspect Rep. West has been packing a piece for some time, only he’s telling us about it now for deterrent purposes."

..."To boil it down, Rep. West’s view of government is “in spite of,” while Rep. Wasserman Schultz’s is “because of.” One is apart from, one is a part of."

he might be receiving threats because of all the Liberal "blame" being heaped so unfairly on poor blameless patriotic conservatives for the Arizona shootings, which were in no way related to conservative hate talk and eliminationist rhetoric. It was a lone nut. It always is. Conservatives are victims I tells ya!!!

Everyone knows that Conservative overt calls for violence and advocating things like "shooting Liberals in the head" has no effect on people, can't possibly ever motivate anyone to actually act on it, only Liberal criticism of it does!!!

therefore Liberal criticism of hate talk is DANGEROUS!!!

but Conservative hate talk isn't...

Got That?

21. This man is nuttier than a fruitcake. I worked on campaign material for his opponent.
I'm surprised he won. The stuff we found out about West is amazing. He really is a total douche bag, and just not a very nice or even intelligent person. He's mean, self-centered...I could go on and on. Florida, you should be proud of yourselves. You elected a neanderthal to represent you (my apologies to neanderthals).

O'Donell on his show that Obama should have gone to Afganstan during the day not in the middle of the night. Said Obama was a chicken. O'Donell reminded him that Bush did the same thing. This guy is a loser.
