PANTS-ON-HEAD BRAIN DEAD!!! UC Police captain claims linking arms is "violent".

How fucking stupid do these authoritarian fucknuggets think we are?

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/11/11/MNH21LTC4D.DTL

A debate over the use of police force has reignited at the UC Berkeley campus after videos surfaced showing officers repeatedly shoving and jabbing screaming students who tried to keep officers from dismantling a nascent Occupy encampment.

The videos taken by protesters, journalists and casual observers show UC Berkeley police and Alameda County sheriff's deputies in riot gear ordering students with linked arms to leave a grassy area outside the campus administration building Wednesday. When the students didn't move, police lowered their face shields and began hitting the protesters with batons.

...

"The individuals who linked arms and actively resisted, that in itself is an act of violence," UC police Capt. Margo Bennett said. "I understand that many students may not think that, but linking arms in a human chain when ordered to step aside is not a nonviolent protest."

Bennett said police merely wanted to enforce the ban on camping on Sproul Plaza, but were prevented from doing so by students.

That is a creative new definition of "violence" that I've never heard before.

7. Merely existing within an area that we've told you to vacate is an act of violence
Now, I understand all you overly-intellectual dirty hippies may not understand that, but hey, fuck you.

8. The I guess breaking up a prayer meeting when they're holding hands could be justified as
being an act of violence, so long as they continue to hold hands.

Thanks for the thread, backscatter.

9. And raising an arm to protect one's face from a police baton is violence?
Linking arms seems more like a protective action. How is linking arms an imminent threat of lawless action, unprotected by the first amendment?

14. Bashing people with batons is
definitely violence. Linking arms? Uh, that seems rather peaceful to me. Would them sitting down and not letting you pass also have been "violence" because it would take more effort for an officer to bend down and strike them? How about existing, is that too violent for you, lady?

17. Well...from the POV of police it is a form of resistance
Aka violent.

When all you see are nails....

And they have to justify hard core tactics on peaceful protesters.

19. When we say NO! it's class warfare. When we unite, it's violence.
They're trying to shift context upon us, to accuse us of being unfair. It's psychology. I remember Bob Dole (BOB DOLE!) once saying that shame is a very powerful tool...and as always, again with the psychology, it is utter transference/projection.

20. Violence is the new terrorism
It means whatever we want it to mean, and what we want it to mean is whatever will allow us to bust some skulls and paint a bunch of people worried about their future as a crazed mob.

Vandalism, peaceful resistance, speech, and raising your arms to block a baton are all considered violence now.
