Message to the Teabagger/FReepers. You have LOST the WAR.
Edited on Wed Nov-09-11 07:23 PM by alphafemale
The majority of people now support some form of support for "domestic partners."

AND

You couldn't pass a "personhood amendment" in MISSISSIPPI?

Your dark ages ideas are done-done-done

You may win a few battles in the future...but THE WAR is over.

All decent people have moved on and left you behind.

but we still have work to do on the economic front

2. Modern Conservatism is Dead
Today's conservatism is not the same as it was 50 years ago.
Even then it pretty much sucked and now it's dried up. Finally.

12. That would be nice, but don't count on it. Always be prepared to defend your rights against it.

17. You're correct, modern conservatism IS dead. Unfortunately the only place it still exists is in the
Supreme Court.

9. What DonCoquixote said.
I have long thought that one of the biggest failures of the older generations (mine included) has been in not understanding that the battles have to be fought and re-fought and re-fought again. We can't EVER let up, even when it looks like we've won.

10. Thanks
If I have to give the GOP credit, it is that they realize people have SHORT attention spans, and that you have to keep fighting, long after you have "won." To take a quote from Lovecraft "that is not dead which can eternal lie..." and the GOP errors lie eternally.

22. Exactly. "the battles have to be fought and re-fought and re-fought again. We can't EVER let up..."
The right never gives up. Neither can we.

The right in Europe is fighting hard after 60 years of mostly progressive government. They never stop. Not there, not here, not anywhere.

14. One of my favorite quotes from Dwight Eisenhower.
I'm a little surprised, at this distance from my neo-hippie youth, that I still carry quotes from a Republican in my head. Still, this seems apposite regarding the necessity to keep up the fight:

"When you are in any contest, you should work as if there were - to the very last minute - a chance to lose it. This is battle, this is politics, this is anything."

7. I think of them as an albatross.
They are just this 'thing' we have to lug around, and placate to some degree so they won't get nasty and violent. They're very testy, them. It's like we have a ball & chain keeping us from moving forward. We don't want it!!!!

I really have no need to impose my choices on them. I just want them to stop holding the rest of us back. We've got too much to do and they're really in the way.

19. Teabagger/Freepers lost the battle, not the war.
There are many battles to come and THEY have the economic resources that we cannot dream of. THEY also control 99% of the media. The worst thing that can happen is that we grow complacent.

20. I'm not advising complacency in any way.
But there are certain civil rights and social justice issues that are NEVER going back to the way the flat-earthers would like to see them.

If they can't get a "personhood" law approved in Mississippi, that's not happening anywhere.

Dr King was right. That arc of history is longer than most of here would like but it does bend toward justice.

25. Since WWII the GOP has never held on to exclusive power for more than 4 years
The GOP has had control of the executive and legislative branches only twice since WWII.

In 1953 they had both for 2 years. In 2003, they had both for 4 years.

So occassionally what happens is the people become frustrated with the Democrats and look to the GOP, but they very quickly realize the GOP are a bunch of fuckups that only serve the needs of the 1%. During economic downtimes, the President typically gets the blame and his party suffers. This time the GOP massively overplayed their cards and swung way too far right which is why their time holding on to the House will be short lived. With the economy still in the toilet, had the GOP elected moderates they would most likely have sailed through the 2012 elections. I think the map is going to turn very blue in 2012.
