Wake shelter kills dog hours after TV appearance

Raleigh, N.C. — The Wake County Animal Center killed an 8-month-old dog named Sassy a few hours after she appeared on WRAL's noon news Tuesday to be adopted.

Animal Shelter Director Dennis McMichael, who started the job Monday, said he was looking in to the situation and couldn't elaborate.

WRAL News has learned that Sassy was put down around 5:30 or 6 p.m. because she showed signs of an illness.

Hours earlier, however, an animal center staff member appeared on WRAL News and said the labrador/hound mix was ready to be adopted.

"She’s already spayed. We went ahead and did it earlier, so we can go ahead and send her home today," the woman said.

The animal center also posted Sassy's TV appearance on its Facebook page, writing: "Check out Miss Sassy on WRAL! She is sweet as sugar and all ready to go. :)"

Ask yourself, would you want dogs gassed instead of put down humanely? Check to see if your state is still barbaric....stop the gassing

6. All 3 of our dogs came from shelters in Georgia and Mississippi.

They were due to be euthanized. We live in Northern New York and we had them transported up. Best to save a dog from the south because of the ways they euthanize. Many use gas chambers and heartsticks. It is sickening.
