I'm not a member of the nra, and haven't been for 20 years...However...


One can disagree with the nra's politics, even disagree with their defense of the second amendment, but they do represent 4 million plus Americans.


They support background checks at retail, on gun purchases.

They support restrictions on mentally ill and violent felons from possessing firearms.

They helped after VT, to strengthen mental health reporting to the NICS database (thats the database that is checked when one purchases a gun at retail.)


Seems to me that those are things an "assassins lobby" would not support.

I'm a second amendment supporter, and comments like this only serve to strengthen my resolve, and tend to cause me to lean towards becoming an nra member again. Or at the very least, to donate money to them.

I doubt very much I'm remotely alone in that.

This is an issue that there's no middle ground. Few minds were changed over the Tucson shootings and only entrenched opinions...as is usually the case. Even more important is who cares what Gergen or any of the pundits have to say. Their view of the rest of the country is a cartoon view based on polls and talking points not on reality.
