As far as I can determine, tonight we have won every major competitive race and issue, everywhere.
SB-5 in Ohio was defeated 3 to 2.

The "personhood amendment" in Misissippi was defeated 3 to 2.

Maine rejected an attempt to eliminate same-day voter registration.

Democrats swept every contested statewide race in Kentucky, most by large margins.

Democrats retained control of the Iowa State Senate.

Russel Pierce, architect of Arizona's SB1070 "anti-brown-people" bill, has been defeated in a recall election--by another Republican.

In Charlotte, North Carolina, Democrats swept every contested race, including Mayor and all the contested city council spots.

Virginia elected it's first openly gay state senator.

Erie County, New York, including the city of Buffalo, have replaced the Republican county executive and Republican-held county legislature with a Democratic exec and a 6-5 Democratic majority.

7. I was holding my breath. The country hasn't failed to sadly surprise me quite a lot
in the past 13 years or so. I think OWS has really made folks wake up and take their personal power back, and much of the ballot issues had something to do with some form of personal power, even the union referendums were about being able to combine personal power.

I'm breathing easier tonight. Perhaps we really are going to see some change.

8. I hope we're not peaking too early!
I'm not kidding -- this country is so fickle it yo-yos with ever quicker frequency these days.

We have to keep the momentum going for a whole 'nother year now. I think having all these batshit crazy Republican candidates out there is helping us.

9. This reminds me a LOT of 2005, actually.
We had a similar boost of great off-year results then, and we were all hoping it would lead into a big wave in the 2006 elections. It did.

18. Not me, 2005 we won some we lost some. Texas banned gay marriage overwhelmingly, etc.
Mostly incumbents stayed in their spots.

20. That actually lasted until 2008
2005 was when Bush became really unpopular - Katrina hit that year, the war was going poorly - and his presence hurt the Republican Party that year.

Can the same happen over the next few years? Perhaps, as long as leading Republicans stay as crazy as they have been lately.

22. batshit crazy Republican candidates

From my 30-year republican / libertarian standpoint -

Palin - a self-serving moron
Romney - old boy's network Mormon
Cain - a social Clinton / fiscal terrorist
Perry - Another Texan president?

I mean, what the fuck?!

What the fuck IS this?

And they have no answers, just the same tired bullshit.

give more more to rich people and hope for some jobs.

how much money is enough?

12. Just in: Dem Bellone defeats Rep Carpenter for Suffolk County (NY) Executive.
Also, Democrats appear poised to retain control of the New Jersey legislature, defeating Chris Christie's efforts to elect Republican challengers.

16. We Won Big in Buffalo, NY!
I'm in Buffalo and I'm so happy that we threw out County Executive Chris Collins tonight. It is a great day for Democrats in Buffalo and across the country. :) Everyone did such a great job! We had a huge voter turnout in Buffalo.

21. Good for you!
As it happens, I'm about ~35 or 40 miles outside Buffalo in the boondocks, so I've gotten an earful of this race. Even had friends on the other side of it (for good reason, admittedly), but in general I'm glad they got rid of Collins. I don't know him personally, but the man comes off as a preening, self-important jackass.

Milford picked a Dem for mayor, first time in 22 years, and Fairfield elected their interim Dem to the First Selectman slot after the Repub FS resigned.

26. i'm ecstatic about the election results, BUT
in Mississippi they did vote in a voter ID (read: disenfranchisement) law. http://washingtonexaminer.com/news/2011/11/mississippi-voters-approve-voter-id-proposal

the electorate giveth; the electorate taketh away.
