18 Arrested in Wisconsin Assembly for Using Cameras; Guns Still Allowed

Guns, Yes. Cameras, No.

18 Arrested in Wisconsin Assembly for Using Cameras; Guns Still Allowed
by Brendan Fischer

Eighteen people were arrested Tuesday for using cameras in the Wisconsin Assembly gallery, including the editor of The Progressive magazine, Matt Rothschild.

Rothschild and others had gone to the capitol to protest a series of arrests in recent weeks of individuals who carried signs or took photos or video in defiance of an Assembly ban.

"We ought to have a right to take a picture," Rothschild said.

The protest was organized through a Facebook event called "Concealed Camera Day at the Capitol!" The event coincided with the implementation of Wisconsin's new concealed carry law, http://www.wisn.com/politics/29614899/detail.html which allows residents to carry a concealed firearm -- including inside the Assembly gallery.

1. Can we bring in a camera if it's firmly attached to a pistol?
If we tape a protest sign to our gun, can we still bring it in?

12. People with cameras aren't dangerous

Terrorists with pictures showing the layout of potential high profile targets are dangerous. In NYC, photography is not allowed in many public venues (like bus terminals and train stations) for that reason.

15. The state legislature has terrorism targets? What?
You think the terrorists are too stupid to find the bus terminals & train stations on google maps?

18. When you make it illegal to take a picture because you're scared of the terrorists
You're really too scared to live.

4. Basic gun safety should be taught in public schools.
Ban children from the gallery for their own safety.

8. There's a reason for that.

Politicos and LEO's are deathly afraid of being caught in an act of malfeasance or dereliction of duty.

One would have to think they would rather be shot instead.

13. If a picture is worth a thousand words, this proves the point
that "the pen is mightier than the sword," and the Wisconsin Assembly know it.

Thanks for the thread, kpete.
