Parents Of Adolf Hitler And JoyceLynn Aryan Nation, Fight To Get Their Kids Back
In 2008, Deborah and Heath Campbell of Holland Township, NJ made national headlines over a birthday cake. When Deborah told a ShopRite bakery department she wanted her son's name -- Adolf Hitler -- spelled out, her request was denied.

One month later, Adolf and his siblings, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie were removed from their home and put into foster care because of alleged abuse and parental incompetence. The Campbells denied any kind of abuse and claimed that the only reason their children were taken was because of their names, NBC 10 reports.

The couple says that a New Jersey court vindicated them of the allegations last month, but has not given custody back to the parents.

"Actually, the judge and DYFS told us that there was no evidence of abuse and that it was the names! They were taken over the children's names," Heath Campbell told NBC 10.

So if there's no abuse or neglect, should parents lose their children based on their name choices? Doesn't sit well with me....

2. I think their names are abuse. And a signal that these are unfit parents.
But I don't know the particulars of the case against them, so can't say for sure.

3. Sorry - but I think the names alone are a form of abuse.
Those children will go through hell until they're old enough to legally change them. I can't imagine the suffering they'll endure at the hands of others - perhaps even violence.

4. Glad I'm not the judge.
Legally, I'm not sure naming your child something inappropriate is abuse. However, what type of upbringing are they receiving? Are they being forced to become anti-semitic, bigoted, racist? Is that even grounds for charges? A good attorney might be able to claim some type of negligence or brain-washing, but it'd be a stretch.

6. Exactly...
if you're gonna take someone's children, I feel there should be no doubt as to abuse/neglect.

When my kids were younger, my daughter came home sick on a Friday...from school. I had antibiotics that my son was taking..he was already sick..the doc was gone for the weekend, so I started my daughter on the antibiotics. She'd taken the medication in the past, and I knew she had what my son had. I called the doc on Monday...told him I'd started her on the same ones, and he called in another prescription.

When she got to school on Monday, one of the teachers asked how she was feeling, she told her teacher she was much better that her brother was sick too and that I gave her some of his medicine so she wouldn't get worse.

The teacher called child protective services on me. I was beside myself when they called and wanted to talk to my husband, me and the kids. My daughter was terrified...she thought they were gonna take them and it was her fault.

Thankfully the woman that came to the house was nice, and said she'd done the same thing with her kids.

It's a scary thing when people start questioning you as a parent.

Don't misunderstand, I think the names are horrible, and the bigotry the kids are living around is awful too, but I don't know that is qualifies as abuse.

Like you I'm glad I'm not the judge.

7. Good Grief.
Sort of the opposite happened to me. My son has ADHD and was prescribed Ritalin when he was in 1st grade. After being on it for about 6months or so, he came out of the bathroom in tears. He begged me not to make him take it anymore because it "made his head feel funny". I started visualizing him becoming a drug addict, so I took him off it immediately. I called his doctor, who was very understanding. He told me that we could start some diet restrictions that might help.

When he went to school the next day, I called the nurse and explained that he would no longer be taking his Ritalin. I got a call from the principal telling me that he considered my actions "neglect". As a young, single mother he thought I would be easy to intimidate. I told him his job was to make sure my son received an education. What type of drugs were put into his body was my job.

A few days later I got a letter from the principal. It was cc'ed from a letter sent to DCFS claiming that I was a negligent parent and that he recommended immediate removal of my son from my care. I was nauseous and terrified....until the woman from DCFS came to my door. I showed her the letter and she was FURIOUS!! Especially after meeting my son who was polite, well-spoken and obviously well cared for. She said she was going to have the principal investigated to see if he's made any other false claims. If this was a "habit", she was going to file charges.

I received a letter of apology (cc'ed to DCFS) from the principal within a week. :)

8. Terrible that you had to go through that...
Good on you for standing your ground! It's very scary and intimidating to have that happen. Glad it worked out in the end. :)

5. I don't like the names, but then shouldn't all the children of the Westboro Baptist Church
be removed? And others like them?

9. I'm very conflicted on this
On one level, I do not believe this reaches the level of abuse that would necessitate removing the children from their parents.

On the other level, the parents are idiots and it is probable, but not really provable, that the children will grow to have some major issues.

I am exceedingly reluctant to see this case turn into some sort of precedent for authorities removing children anytime they don't agree with the parents worldview.

11. On the other hand, you're accepting this couple's claim
that the names are the only reason for the children not being released yet.

10. So we're being asked to believe the claims of a couple
who would name their child Adolph Hitler that they have been good parents.

Sorry. I'lll wait to hear what the court actually says.
