1. Al Jazeera has been reporting this for some hours now
Their Live Stream AJE news reported that he is in a medically-induced coma as doctors determine the best treatment to deal with swelling of the brain.

2. Good thing the attempted murder was done by a cop -- or it'd be against the law!

3. I don't like hating anyone, I really don't, but I hate those cops
The whole thing was so unnecessary. The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach. Just have to have faith the doctors are taking the best course of action to help Scott as they see fit. Maybe they are preparing him for surgery to take the pressure off his brain. That may improve his condition.

Someone put this up on another link...it might be nice if we all sent cards, even for his families sake, to let them know we appreciate his taking part in Occupy Oakland and that we are wishing both Scott and his family the best. My prayers and good wishes are with him.

5. They're giving his brain
time to heal. It's really the best thing for him right now. Sending good thoughts clear across the country for his speedy and full recovery.

7. No, it's a good thing that they can do that
He has a terrible brain injury and this will allow them to take better care of him.

10. Hopefully this will keep him still

until the swelling goes down. It's good, like you say, in that regard.

Very serious injury if it's gone to this level, and so sad and so avoidable.

All the cops had to do was act like decent human beings.

9. I don't mean to minimize
his injuries. To the contrary, this is a very serious injury - it's just that they really can't do anything (surgically or otherwise) until his brain stops swelling. The best way to do that is the medically induced coma.

8. Has anyone been able to confirm which officer shot the projectile that hit Olsen?
This is going to be critical in the impending civil suit.

I have no faith in the official investigation giving names, and fully intend to cover for this officer.

Good luck, Scott. The whole world is with you!

12. One has to wonder who the cop is that threw the flash/bang into the crowd
attempting to help him, I bet that didn't improve his condition any.

11. His roommate was on KO last night, and said that the doctors are keeping him sedated
That isn't the same phrase, "medically induced coma" but I took it to mean the same thing. So I don't think this is really unconfirmed.

13. If this guy dies, there will be hell to pay....
A riot in Oakland may make the one in Los Angeles (Rodney King Beating)look like a birthday party for little girls.
