1. I read about that trend before. What brought you to this story?
Did such teens recently pass by your neighborhood?

2. Every six months they would show up in my town
Years ago, when they first started coming around, I called the local Chamber of Commerce to see what was up and the person that I spoke to instructed me to call the sheriff's office to let them know they had returned. Apparently, it was a semi-annual ritual. The crew hits my town. The cops find out and run them off. The kids are often runaways and at the mercy of their crew leaders.

I haven't seen the magazine kids in a couple of years but yes, this is a bad, dangerous situation for them.

6. When I was growing up, kids sold GRIT for pocket money and "valuable prizes."

This, however, is nothing but a distributed sweatshop.

7. I bought a subscription from one of these kids
I had no idea. I notice the article is from 2007. I'm interested in reading more about this.
