MSNBC's Buchanan Attacks Obama's Mother: "An Alienated Individual" Who Was An "Ethnomasochist"
Edited on Tue Oct-25-11 07:33 PM by kpete
BUCHANAN: Take Barack Obama's own mother. I think she was an alienated individual just as Susan Sontag -- what I would call an ethno masochist in this sense. Her Indonesian husband wanted to know why she refused to meet with the American businessmen coming to Indonesia. And he said, please come and meet with these businessmen. These are your people. She said, they are not my people. In other words, her ideology had alienated her from her own country.

36. I would hunt him down for that if that was my mother. At least
obama had one. A lady I know here babysitted Barack when he was a baby while his mom attended college in Washington state.

12. Patrick J. Buchanan, I know you read DU! Take my advice: Retire.
Dear God, please. You just look like an old fool. Don't you have a shred of dignity?

You don't even try to hide your bigotry anymore.

And the irony is, your Irish/Scot ancestors were discriminated against in America. Now you want to perpetrate that same discrimination against other groups? How uniquely American.

Please stand down. Every man knows when it's time. Except you.

This is the 21st century, not the 19th.

Go away, and take your racist ideas with you.

16. We may be observing the well known phenomenon of increasing bigotry/paranoia
that happens in older people with incipient dementia. I do not say this as any kind of joke or snark. I have observed it often and there is no reason to think that pundits or politicians are in any way exempt from the pattern.

Buchanan should be fired. I hope the WH contacts MSNBC.

26. The one thing the WH should absolutely NOT do
is contact MSNBC to complain about/demand the firing of Pat Buchanan. That would be flagrantly unconstitutional - government interfering with someobody's right to free speech. Even obnoxious speech like Pat's is protected by the First Amendment, and all hell would (rightly) break loose if the WH tried to suppress it in any way.

We can do that, though. We're not the government.

28. "unconstitutional"? Hillary's campaign complained bitterly and got a MSNBC host suspended in 2008.

Bush's WH did it, too. I'm sure others did as well. What you're saying is ridiculous.

29. Hillary's campaign wasn't the government - she was just a candidate.
Edited on Tue Oct-25-11 09:48 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
And Bush's WH did unconstitutional stuff all the time, and, unfortunately, got away with it. They were known for it, in fact. I wouldn't use the actions of Bush to defend unconstitutional conduct.

When the government tries to suppress speech it violates the Constitution.

30. You're making a strawman argument. It is not "unconstitutional" for the WH to make a complaint.
Edited on Tue Oct-25-11 09:54 PM by ClarkUSA
President Obama has attacked /mocked Faux News publicly and so has his WH staff (e.g., Anita Dunn) so what you're saying is simply not true.

32. You're misinterpreting what I said. IMO, Buchanan should be fired.
Edited on Tue Oct-25-11 10:07 PM by ClarkUSA
Secondly, the WH should call MSNBC and register their offense at Buchanan's attack on the President's mother. If Buchanan gets fired or suspended because of it, then that'd be MSNBC's decision. I won't shed a tear.

Nowhere did I say that the WH should demand that Buchanan should be fired. You jumped to that conclusion erroneously.

38. Pat's Family Tree
snip

Buchanan can quickly name two Mississippi ancestors who fought for the South in the Civil War, one who was killed in the battle at Vicksburg, and another captured by Union General William T. Sherman as Atlanta fell in 1864. He is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the group awarded Buchanan two of his proudest possessions -- a Military Order of the Stars and Bars, and a Confederate flag that flew in battle during the Civil War.

His sister, Bay Buchanan, was US Treasurer under Reagan; her signature appears on US currency printed from 1981-83. She later managed all of Buchanan's Presidential campaigns, and is now an anti-immigration activist and conservative political commentator. Buchanan's other sister, Kathleen Buchanan Connolly, was the longtime personal secretary of conservative columnist and CIA-agent-outer Robert Novak. Their brother, Harry Buchanan, is an accountant who was, according to a CBS News report, involved in laundering illegal contributions for Nixon's 1972 re-election campaign.

Father: William Baldwin Buchanan (co-owner of an accounting firm, b. 15-Aug-1905, d. Jan-1988)
Mother: Catherine Elizabeth Crum (nurse, b. 23-Dec-1911, m. 29-Dec-1934, d. 18-Sep-1985)
Brother: William Baldwin Buchanan, Jr. (b. 1936, d. 1986)
Brother: Henry M. Buchanan (accountant, laundered campaign contributions for Nixon's 1972 campaign)
Brother: James Buchanan
Sister: Kathleen B. Buchanan Connolly (columnist Robert Novak's secretary)
Brother: John E. Buchanan
Sister: Bay Buchanan (US Treasurer under Ronald Reagan)
Brother: Brian D. Buchanan
Brother: Thomas M. Buchanan (attorney)
Wife: Shelley Ann Scarney (Richard M. Nixon's secretary, m. 1971

Buchanan's father was an accountant who was fiercely anti-communist and admired Joseph McCarthy, and as a young man Buchanan was often itching for a fight. In college he was suspended for a year after punching a policeman in an argument over a traffic ticket. He received his draft notice in 1960, but was excused from military service because he had Reiter's syndrome, a form of reactive arthritis usually triggered by venereal diseases. In 1962, fresh from college with a degree in journalism, he was hired as a reporter at the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, and two years later he became the paper's assistant editorial page editor.

Conceivably, he might be the worst individual in the media since Father Coughlin. He is/was the vanguard of public Nazism in the US. It's not 'funny' and never was AFAIC...that whole "Uncle Pat" routine was disgusting and despicable...he'd see people like Rachel and the rest of us in Concentration Camps if he could...

That ugly smile oughta get wiped off that 'face' of his...repulsive.
