And now....more wisdom from wingnut e-mail
Direct Deposit for SS Checks.

Is this for real????? Snopes says ' Yes it is! '

ON JANUARY 1 ST 2012, THE GOVERNMENT IS REQUIRING EVERYONE TO HAVE DIRECT DEPOSIT FOR SS CHECKS.

WONDER WHY?

1% tax on all bank transactions HR 4646

This government just cannot think of enough ways to hurt the American people! I sure hope this dies!!!!!
FORWARD THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!
1% tax on all bank transactions HR 4646 - ANOTHER NEW OBAMA TAX SLIPPED IN WHILE WE WERE ASLEEP. Checked this on snopes, it's true! Check out HR 4646.

President Obama's finance team is recommending a one percent (1%) transaction fee (TAX). Obama's plan is to sneak it in after the November elections to keep it under the radar.

This is a 1% tax on all transactions at any financial institution - banks, credit unions, savings and loans, etc. Any deposit you make, or even a transfer within your account, will have a 1% tax charged. ~If your paycheck or your social security or whatever is direct deposit, it will get a 1% tax charged for the transaction. ~If your paycheck is $1000, then you will pay Obama $10 just for the privilege of depositing your paycheck in your bank. Even if you hand carry your paycheck or any check into your bank for a deposit, 1% tax will be charged. ~You receive a $5,000 stock dividend from your broker, Obama takes $50 just to allow you to deposit that check in the bank.. ~If you take $1,000 cash to deposit at your bank, 1% tax will be charged.

Mind you, this is from the man who promised that, if you make under $250,000 per year, you will not see one penny of new tax. Keep your eyes and ears open, you will be amazed at what you learn about this guy's under-the-table moves to increase the number of ways you are taxed.

Oh, and by the way, if you receive a refund from the IRS next year and you have it direct deposited or you walk in to deposit that check, you guessed it. You will pay a 1% charge of that money just for putting it in your bank. Remember, any money, cash, check or whatever, no matter where it came from, you will pay a 1% fee if you put it in the bank.

Some will say, oh well, it's just 1%. Are you kidding me? It's a 1% tax increase across the board. Remember, once the tax is there, they can also raise it at will. And if anyone protests, they will just say, "Oh,that's not really a tax, it's a user fee"! Think this is no big deal? Go back and look at the transactions you made on one year's banking statements. Then add the total of all those transactions and deduct 1%. Still think it's no big deal?

3. The warning fails to mention that...
... the gist of the bill is that no one would be paying Federal Income Tax anymore.

It also paints the bill as some kind of Obama/Pelosi brainchild, when it's just one Congressman proposing it. And he's been proposing it since before Obama was President, and it's still gained no traction.

But, Wingnuts see what they want to see.

4. Not exactly
This bill has never come to the floor. The whole snopes article needs to be read. This bill has no chance of being passed. This is just another example of fear mongering about something that isn't going to happen.

7. I post this "crap" here to let everyone know what might be showing up on FB or in e-mail
This was sent to me earlier today by someone who sends me winger stuff that's making the rounds. Invariably, when I post these items, responses appear with a) links to the facts and/or b) excellent refutations of the e-mail.

8. You may also see this regarding OWS
What do you think about the latest news coming out Occupy Wall Street?

1.In LA a teacher was fired for her anti-semitic remarks at Occupy LA Protesthttp://www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktla-occupy-la-anti-semitic-comments,0,1949335.story

2.In Salt Lake City the homeless are being kicked off of Pioneer Park. I thought Bank of America was the only one kicking people out?

13. WTAM, a clear Channel station, took the story off it's web site....
more than likely a rumor that was unfounded.

The only people who have reported on it are the usual suspects on the RW Blogosphere.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but WTAM would have been all over it if it was even partially true.

16. Plus, anyone who's ever seen Occupy Cleveland knows that isn't true.
It's like, 4 tents at the Superior Avenue/Public Square bus stop next to an open parking lot. Is a rape going to occur in a heavily-policed business area in full view of the public? Noooooooooooooot likely.

It's funny that WTAM scrubbed it but druge and other RW blogs are still running with it.

9. I've noticed two things in nearly every RW email...
Edited on Thu Oct-20-11 10:42 PM by JohnnyRingo
One, they never have a link to a source. Wing Nuts never think that matters even though their first reaction is to say "this is unbelievable!". (That's usually in the first line)

Two: They usually advise the reader that "Snopes says it's true", but they never seem to check for themselves.

Democrats invented using the internet as a resource to network rallies and fundraising. Republicans mastered the art of misleading emails. When someone says "don't believe everyhting you read on the internet", they mean those right wing emailings.

10. I've noticed another thing on Facebook -- "Who's with me?"
Edited on Fri Oct-21-11 06:28 AM by OmahaBlueDog
...as in "America has become a weaker country since we ended prayer in school. Who's with me? 'Like' if you agree." The implication being that if you were really this person's friend, you'd get in line with the rest of the herd and agree with this.

Recently, I've begun to see winger FB posts with an admonition like "99% of you will not have the nerve/guts to re-post this." The implication here being that unless you're a wing nut, you're gutless.

It's back to High School. It's all about peer pressure and being part of a crowd.

14. I've noticed that when one of those messages is "signed" by someone...
...It's a good bet they're not the ones who wrote it, and might have just had their named falsely slapped onto it by someone.

Like slapping the name of a WW2 fighter ace to add credibility to smears against the Clintons:
It's not clear who wrote the e-mail. At the bottom it says "Sincerely, Cdr. Hamilton McWhorter USN (ret)." — the name of a retired military officer who presumably gives the message additional credibility.

A St. Petersburg Times search of public records found only one McWhorter who fit that title — a legendary Navy fighter pilot from World War II, now 86 and living in El Cajon, Calif.

He said in an e-mail exchange with the Times that he did not write the Gold Star Mothers e-mail, and is tired of hearing about it. He believes someone copied his name from a Web site or from publicity about his memoir The First Hellcat Ace.

His wife, Louise, said, "My husband is a Georgia gentleman. He would never write that about a woman."
