Koch Industries doesn't support Herman Cain because they think he can be elected.
They support him because his rightward pressure on Romney will force the eventual nominee into publicly committing to their hard right views on deregulation of corporations and the re-Gilding of the American economy.
This isn't a complete thought, but I thought I'd throw this out there and see if anyone wanted to run with it.
1. I also think they support him because it counters the
perception that the Republicans are racists, possibly splitting minorities and gaining some of their vote. That's been the Republican game plan for years adding by dividing.
long shots do come in once in a while. And falling short of that, he does serve a purpose being in there, as you say, changing the debate. They are getting their money's worth.
