GYRO, DUMPLING & JERK: The Best Food Trucks On Wall Street
New York's hottest dining trend -- the food truck -- has popped up on many corners of the Financial District.

Last month we asked you where you got your favorite "street meat." The consensus is in — Wall Street foodies seemed to prefer Veronica's Kitchen and Rickshaw Dumpling Truck. However, they don't seem to be fans of DessertTruck or Kiflu's Lunch Truck.

Roach coaches occupy Wall Street.

1. These food trucks aren't cheap anymore - that used to be part of the appeal.
You could buy something hot, filling and fairly low on the "processed" scale for about half of what you'd pay in a real deli or buffet.

Now, some of these trucks are MORE expensive than the delis.

2. Had a great friend years ago made a fortune with a food truck
Buck-A-Dog

Every hot dog was a buck. you wanted condiments, extra .25. Wanted onions or kraut, .50. Hamburgers $2, same scale for the extras. Fries, $1 .

he made so much money at 40 he retired to Florida, bought a house, and franchised the business. Last time I talked to him he was thinking about Buck-A-Cookie...........

6. Buck-A-Dog works everywhere
25 cents for the dog, 25 cents for the over head, 50 cents profit. Sell 1000 dogs a day and you make $100 profit (or so you tell the government.......

4. This is gonna sound crazy,but....
....when I went to the most highly accredited culinary school in the world (at the time) an instructor there told the class that the best business to get into was a hod dog stand, we laughed.

The overhead is so low and the markup so high that as long as you have the volume you can make a lot of money, as your friend did.

Of course none of us went to culinary school to make hot dogs, but maybe we should have.

5. Or he could go into Chinese food with Buck-A-Duck...
:hide: ;)

I like the sound of his venture. Decent food for cheap is very important. Well-deserved success...
