1. I love this one:

Unfortunately I'm not in a union, but I am aware that unions got me overtime pay, weekends off, a safer work place and all the labor laws that make our lives better.

4. Labor Unions have done somethng for EVERYONE today
and every day. Looking forward to the weekend? Does rainwater wash down the drains instead of filling up your basement? Are your kids in school instead of on a factory floor?

EVERYONE can add a little something to this database.

blood.

I am grateful every day for what the fighters who came before us won, and what Mr. Brickbat and his union brothers and sisters defend with their work today.

I am grateful to my union for the education and resources it provides.

My sigline says it all. Union is my religion.

9. Today...
they made my show run like clockwork. They came in and started with a clean of the stage (something we normally do at the end of the night...but that's another story). Sweep and mop. Then the built the house audio systems (today it was just the Front of House and Monitor World audio desks).

They then loaded in the band (Lupe Fiasco...he wore a #occupywallstreet shirt for the show btw). The built the set. They rigged and focused lights. They put new lights we just purchased (led movers...wonderfully environmental). They set up the spot lights. Ran the com. Set up the tour FoH and lighting control. They did all the set changes and ran the spot lights during the show. They helped the Merch girls get all her merch boxes to the merch stand and helped her set up her displays. They built the barricade. They built risers and side fill stacks and a giant anarchy symbol the tour brought. At the end of it all, after breaking it all down and loading all the stuff back in the bands trailers, breaking down risers and coiling literally a mile of cables....the swept and mopped again.

...and they did it all smiling and laughing and having a good time.

I'm thankful for my Union crew. And though I am NOT Union (tried to unionize my position...but every union I've talked to sends me to another union that denies me yet again)...I would take a bullet for everyone of those wonderful people with whom I've worked with for years and years. I love my Union crew.

10. My union is still protecting my pension that I live on, and...
continue to fight to protect my health insurance. I now live in an area where nobody gets pensions or health insurance, but love to vote for Republicans because they send all their jobs elsewhere!

13. I don't belong to a union, but is is because of unions that I have a good wage
Edited on Sat Oct-08-11 08:37 AM by rustydog
It is because of unions and good strong-willed Americans that I have a 5-day work week and workplace laws.
I love unions, I grew up in a union household.
