It Seems Fitting To Me That As NYC Was The First Capital And Where Washington Was First Sworn In
That the OWC should also start in NYC. Not discounting Concord and Lexington etc., but, imho, it just seems right to me.

"New York City was the first capital of the United States once the Constitution was ratified. This is where Congress (that was formed under the Articles of Confederation) met. It is also where George Washington took the oath of office from the balcony of the old City Hall to become the first President of the United States."

1. Wall Street originated as the place where slaves were traded and sold.
And it has continued in the policy of creating slaves for most of its existence.

Like someone else on DU pointed out, it isn't where the laws are passed, but it sure the heck is where they are formulated!

3. New York wasn't the first capital of the United States. Philadelphia was.
New York was merely the capital at the time of the early Constitution.

7. your headline says New York was the first capital. It wasn't.
You even admitted it in the body of your post, but not in the headline.

that is what is a fact.

10. unrecced for arguing incorrect factual declarative...Philly was First Capital...

I don't understand why you wish to argue that your headline is factually correct because you then qualify it in the body of your OP...it is factually incorrect, misleading and in general not a good ideal.

Yes Washington was elected in NY but NY was not the first capital...

excerpt:

The nation's first capital was Philadelphia, then the great metropolis of North America with a population of more than 40,000. In December 1776, however, in the face of advancing British forces, the Continental Congress hurriedly adjourned to Baltimore (capital #2). The delegates were not enthusiastic about Baltimore, a muddy burg of 6,000; one ungraciously described it as an "extravagant hole." They were only too happy to return to Philly in March 1777 when the military situation stabilized.

12. I Disagree
The answer to the question you actually asked, the first capital of the United States, not a colonial capital, not the site of the Continental Congress (i.e. before it was the United States), is Federal Hall in New York.

Federal Hall, New York City, New York: March 4, 1789 to December 5, 1790
Congress Hall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: December 6, 1790 to May 14, 1800
United States Capitol, Washington, D.C.: November 17, 1800 to present
