I have done awful things to make my mortgage payments including selling my body. But I am no longer willing to sacrifice my remaining shreds of dignity on the altar of a faceless institution that gave me an ill-advised loan to begin with. Are you guys really THAT greedy?

4. This makes me cry.

I was in the parking lot of my grocery store last night. As I was getting in my car, I was approached by a woman who I noticed hanging around the lot. I thought perhaps she locked herself out of her car. I saw her make a face to someone inside the car. She approached me and asked for some money for gas so she could drive herself and her daughter home. After initially turning her down...I don't know why because I almost always - esp. these days - give to panhandlers, others...maybe I felt a little pressured...anyway - I dropped a $5 on her.

As I drove away, I realized that woman gave me a gift, a moment of grace. SHE gave ME the opportunity to express my humanity. I was so grateful that I had come to my senses and accepted her offer to help her survive another day.
