Oregon teen loaded shotgun before shooting friend

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) Police say a Forest Grove teenager loaded a shotgun that went off behind his friend's head, and killing him.

Initially 18-year-old Cody James Ward told police that he thought the shotgun was unloaded when he pointed at his friend on Sept. 17. Ward told them the shotgun just went off.

A day later he changed his story and said he had loaded it. Ward is facing second-degree manslaughter charges in the death of 15-year-old Trenton Joseph "T.J." Lester. ............(more)

2. I believe this is also known as "murder." nt
A firearm doesn't "just go off." You have to pull the trigger.
