“It's become too big to ignore" - OccupyWallStreet To Grow Next Week

Veteran agitators flock to Occupy Wall Street
By DANIEL MASSEY
Sep 29, 2011 2:26 pm

The city's most experienced agitators—the labor and community groups that typically organize local marches, rallies and sit-ins—have been largely missing from the Occupy Wall Street protest that is in its 13th day at Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan.

But that's about to change.

- snip -

“It's a responsibility for the progressive organizations in town to show their support and connect Occupy Wall Street to some of the struggles that are real in the city today,” said Jon Kest, executive director of New York Communities for Change, which is helping to organize the march. “They're speaking about issues we're trying to speak about.”

- snip -

The protestors have transformed the park into a village of sorts, complete with a community kitchen, a library, a concert stage, an arts and crafts center and a media hub. All of that has enabled them not just to sustain the action but to build momentum. And as celebrities like Michael Moore, Susan Sarandon, Russell Simmons and Cornel West have joined in, the city's traditional activists have been forced to jump into the fray.

“It's become too big to ignore,” said one political consultant.

- snip -

Signs and chants will likely call for an extension of the so-called millionaires' tax and a roll-back of state budget cuts. They will also likely show support for New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's position that a proposed settlement between banks and attorneys general over troubled mortgage pools is too lenient.

3. Stubborn lot
Don't they realize they're not wearing the right clothes, that their message isn't distilled down to the size a Tea Bagger brain can handle (e.g. Hulk SMASH!), and that the popular media aren't giving them fawning coverage? Besides, they're making some people uncomfortable. And, and, and, some of the banksters are laughing at them while drinking expensive champagne. Somebody tell them to just cut it out.

establishment "progressives" who are dismissing these kids. I'll be proud to demonstrate with them and talk about the sad state our country is in with them. I'll post pics for y'all.

Good luck, have fun (because freedom fightin' is fun), and if you throw a tear gas canister back at the cops, remember to wash your hands thoroughly before using the toilet.

9. Wouldn't it be great if the protestors...
...just showed up in the Today show line?

They could also show up and protest outside the windows. People outside
those windows are visible.

And it IS live television.

I would love to see that.

K&R because we will be changing things around this country...no matter
how many nerdewells are unleashed on the Internet to quell this revolution.

K&R to offset the cowards.

46. Thanks for the welcome. And...
... I am sufficiently cynical to understand that many wingnuts are well beyond help. But I live in Red State central. A lot of traditional conservative friends and family. Maybe not certifiable wingnuts, but pretty conservative - and usually wingnutty on at least an issue or two. THEY can be reasoned with, especially when a little truth gets through their filters. I'm all in favor of exposing them to as much as possible.

said they should disband and join a presidential campaign team. What a joke. The reason why the people are there is because the system does not work for the people anymore. They will not donate their time to some stupid greedy politician who is only going to discard them when it is politically expedient after the election.

70. Good To See More Threads About This... I've Been Wondering Why I
wasn't hearing more. I can't get to the big ones because of financial reasons, but will be going to one in Tampa. I was so happy when I got the email from a group I belong to about it. However, it will also be in conjunction with the Afghan War. But they did highlight Corrupt Corporations as a big part of the whole rally.

I've sent out emails to many people and got people in my neighborhood to go with us. THIS NEEDS TO KEEP GOING ON!

It's time we hit the streets no matter if they pay attention or not. If Tea-Baggers got their people elected and energized THIS might be what will help our side. And it MIGHT make our Democrats REALIZE they had better GET ON BOARD!

Just one problem with the date down here... The Rays are in the play-offs and I'm afraid there could be a timing conflict. Just praying it will be an off night to play, but did look at the calendar and it made me wonder. Don't know how they schedule, like 2 days playing, one off or what. It might throw a monkey wrench into things down here. Can anyone fill me in on how they play these games?

Fingers crossed because my husband and a couple of his friends said they would go with me, BUT they're BIG for the Rays! I may be trucking with less people and that SUCKS!
