A closer look at the Republican voters...
They hate the Democrats. They despise Barack Obama.

But they cannot agree on any one candidate or any one issue. They are deeply divided. No candidate in the Republican field can unite this bunch of yahoos. They are not in the mood to compromise with anyone. Even in the Congress, they have lost their minds and their way. Who could unite the Tea Baggers, the establishment Republicans, the far right-wingers?

They have been programmed to not agree with anyone but those within their bubble. They will not be easily de-programmed. They simply will not pick Romney over Obama because he is a "Republican". They have their principles and they will not surrender them. That is how I see the present Republican Party.

I think the debate tonight may indicate just how deep are the divisions within the Republican Party?

1. There's another episode of the GOP debate? Haven't they canceled that show yet?
These candidates aren't even qualified to tend crops on Farmville.

4. Don't feel obligated to rec if you disagree...
:-)

It's no big deal. I was simply trying to make a comparison for those that think the Democratic Party is so divided. The Republican Party is like Humpty Dumpty...

13. I unrecced it. No jollies
I just disagree. The nice thing about the feature is we don't have to make a redundant post or a +/- 1.

15. Exactly, I don't believe that people post to get a rec. or validity from some unknown person online.
People post what's on their mind, what's touching them, causing them upset. It's nice to get a rec. or two from time to time, but an unrec can also be worn as a badge of courage. K&R from me.

21. If the greatest OP of the day gets 0 net Recs, is it any less great?
Are it's points any less valid with no Recs or is it any less well written?

Time for DU to grow up and leave the junior high school popularity obsession with Rec/UnRec behind.

6. The Republicans will vote in droves
for Romney over Obama. Once he is the nominee they will adjust quickly. I know these people and as much as they dislike Romney it is nothing compared to their hatred for Obama.

10. Normally, I would agree...
I don't see this Republican Party uniting. The propaganda has been too effective.

8. Yes, it is very divided
I give you my husband as an example. Yeah, he watches Faux News endlessly, and like a good sheep agrees with what they say, UNLESS you actually CHALLENGE him, then he back down. Yes, he hates Obama and Democrats, but if you really debate him, he WILL admit that the Perry's, Backman's, et all, are really loonies. He voted for Perot and not at all the second Bush time around. End the minimum wage to promote business and create jobs? "Tricke UP economics." "Won't help job creation and will decrease EVERYONE's SALARIES." "TAX businesses who send jobs to India and China." HIS was 3 times. End Social Security? "Take a look at your 401K's." End Medicare? "What doctor will take vouchers for a Senior with pre-existing conditions?" Social issues. "Not my business to tell anybody else how to live, whether women who want an abortion or gays who want to get married." Guns? "Yeah, there will be a revolution of Muslims against US citizens and Obama wants to take away our guns." Maybe you will be fighting against your FELLOW AMERICAN citizens instead? No answer. God and religion? Pays lip service to "christian" ideals, but hasn't seen the inside of a church since the last family wedding or funeral. Doesn't like MUSLIMS, but Jews, Buddhists, etc, etc., should have the right to believe, and practice, whatever they want. Does not believe we are a "christian nation".

Yep, very divided, and NUTS.

12. I think the largest majority of them would follow Perry...
He's just crazy enough to fit into their acceptable curve. I hope Romney attacks him on Social Security and I hope the WH tape machines are running...

16. I agree that they're divided right now, but your first sentence is key
I think their hate of us/Obama will override their desires for a perfectly insane candidate.

Primary division is pretty common in both parties, actually. I remember DU was an awful place when Hillary and Obama were duking it out. But most Democrats wound up voting for the eventual nominee. I know I'm applying logic to an insane party, but I think they'll eventually do the same with whichever cretin they ultimately nominate.

19. I think the problem is Republicans are losing ground like almost all Americans
The Republicans are mostly talking around issues and proposing solutions that don't appear likely to work, address actual needs in these voters lifes etc... These people have been trained to hate Democrats and liberals, but now look at their own party and there really isn't any there, there. Almost everything these candidates talk about, failed only 2.5 years ago. I think you are witnessing the frustration of a voting base that senses something is wrong and can't figure out the rethug candidates have slowly gotten more conservative with time, even less interested in them, and unable to envision a plan for the future only a past and at the same time the voters can't figure out to not vote for the pointless GOP as it exists today. If you felt your only option in the world were these people on stage, you'd be pretty disillusioned too.
