We ignore Rick Perry at our peril. The American people have already demonstrated ...
that they will elect a half-bright, knuckle-dragging, Texas shit-kicker. I thought John Kerry would crush George Bush. I mean OBLITERATE him! An erudite, thoughtful Senator, and a genuine war hero to boot vs a drunken, AWOL, frat boy, cheerleader? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? And yet it happened. I look at and listen to Perry and think, "Oh, for shit's sake, who could possibly vote for a congenital idiot who proudly wraps himself in a cloak of stupidity?" Then I remember that tens of millions of our fellow citizens voted for Bush, and I feel a cold chill wash over me.
Anyone who sits this one out, or who claims that there's no difference between the parties anymore needs to be ready to explain how we wound up with a Supreme Court on which "Fat Tony" Scalia is considered a centrist; and the FDA, EEOC, SEC, and Civil Rights Division of the DOJ are just footnotes in a history text.
The perfect is not the enemy of the good, and the good need not always be the enemy of the not-so-good. But they ALL need to be the enemy of the unthinkably execrable.

1. Very Very Kicked and Recommended
The Repigs have unlimited money, they have the support of every Tee Vee station and almost every radio station and newspaper,
they have the voting machinez, they have the Supreme Court on their side, they control 27 states.

It took a landslide to beat them in 2008, and it will require an even bigger landslide to beat them in 2012.

Anything less and they will steal it.

8. Too early to tell.
Look at how the brilliant bloviator from Minnesota has faded, so far, so fast.

The only reason why Perry won't fade as quickly is $$$. He has a lot. But so did several people in '08, and McCain came back in the end.

I suspect that Perry will fade as well. Remember, there are 4-5 absolutely ruthless, back stabbing, hate-driven, embittered people who think that they can and will beat out Perry. They have staffs doing nothing but reading his book, reading his speeches, and picking through his hysterical political claims while taking a close look at his performance.

10. Michele Bachmann is a woman, and the Repug party is ruthlessly misogynistic.
If she were a male, saying the exact same things, she would named the candidate by acclamation. Sorry, Michele, but you picked the wrong party - "no nuts, no nomination".

16. Perry has a few other advantages going for him
For starters, he's not a Congressional representative. It's been a very long time since someone leaped from the House of Representatives to the Presidency. Also, he was elected twice from a major state, that's something Bachmann can't fake.

The only one that has a shadow of a chance of beating Perry is Romney, and the fundies just will not vote for him, no matter how idiotic Perry is made out to be.

It's no cloak. It's the real thing.

5. you are SO right
I worked on Bill White's campaign when he ran against Perry.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_White_(politician)

he would have done so much GOOD for Texas...but Texans voted against their best interests...what makes the rest of the country think they are above us?

6. I agree. Rick Perry scares the hell out of me.
He's clearly Bush Jr. 2.0. He has that "guy I'd want to have a beer with" demographic locked up. I have plenty of friends who I enjoy having a beer with and wouldn't vote for, and they DON'T want to abolish the EPA and the Department of Education.

7. Read where Christie was 'seriously' considering throwing in the
hat. Wonder if he'd take some wind out of Perry's sails.

I don't discount Perry at all. I'm STILL stunned that the country re-elected (sort of) Bush.

11. I'm sorry but the country didn't re-elect bush. Number 1: He stole the first election (Florida)
so he wasn't elected. He was appointed by the Supreme Court! Number 2: He stole Ohio! So he can't be re-elected if he wasn't elected in the first place.

The man is a fraud and a war criminal and should be in prison. I'd watch one of those prison shows on MSNBC if bush were one of the inmates.

12. Agreed on both counts (and why Ohio in 2004 hasn't been more fully dissected and reported ...
will haunt me to my grave); but my point remains that tens of millions of presumably sentient citizens still voted for the goofy little fucker!

9. Ignore any Republican at your own risk.
That includes your next door neighbor, relative, candidate, and elected official. It is difficult to listen to the drivel but you must on occasion listen no matter how painful.

17. Yep, and Shrub beat Kerry after four years of public display of his stupidity
Perry is a virtual unknown (and will remain that way until the election) running against someone that the country has fallen out of love with.

I fear Perry greatly, mainly because I think he will have the Congress he wants to really screw us over.
